Agrigento is one of Sicily’s most unforgettable towns, full...

Agrigento is one of Sicily’s most unforgettable towns, full of charm, history, warmth, and authentic local character. Just minutes from the magnificent Doric temples of the Valley of the Temples, Agrigento offers something far richer than a quick sightseeing stop. The temples draw visitors from around the world, but the city itself feels like the real Sicily: sunlit stone streets, sweeping sea views, lively piazzas, family-run restaurants, beautiful churches, and a slower rhythm that invites you to stay, wander, and truly experience the island. What makes Agrigento so special is the way ancient history and everyday Sicilian life exist side by side. You can spend the morning walking among some of the most extraordinary Greek ruins in the world, then enjoy an espresso in the historic center, explore quiet alleyways filled with balconies and flowers, and end the evening with fresh seafood, local wine, and a golden sunset over the Mediterranean. Agrigento is not polished in a generic tourist way, and that is exactly its magic. It is real, soulful, welcoming, and deeply Sicilian. For travelers who want beauty, history, culture, and authenticity all in one place, Agrigento is a city that deserves to be experienced, not just visited. While you're there, make sure to visit Bar Atenea for some local favorites in a small, warm, eclectic atmosphere, Caffe Concordia for the BEST cornettoes and pastries in the city, and Le Boccerie for the BEST pizza....try their mortadella pizza with pistachio pesto - life changing!

Valley of the Temples is obviously a must visit but Agrigento is also worth a visit in it's own right as a lively hill top village with lots to see, a lovely feel with it's intimate streetscape, great shopping and lots of nice places to eat.

We saw a lot of day tour buses coming from Palermo, Catania, and maybe other places. While Agrigento is certainly doable as a day trip, our recommendation is to spend two nights and a full day. That way you'd have two slow, enjoyable dinners in the town (has great restaurants), two beautiful mornings with coffee on a terrace, and a full day to enjoy the Valley of the Temples at the slower pace than most tourist groups endure. And as a definite "bucket list" item, the Valley deserves it: take your time to stroll among the ruins, contemplate the lives of the people here 2,500 years ago, the beautiful sea scenery up and down the coast, slow aperitif hour on the town with the view of the Valley from the top.. If you don't rush, you'll enjoy it so much more

Agrigento city is a mixed bag.

Agrigento city is a mixed bag. Some beautiful buildings eg the Cathedral. My visit was out of season so lots of closed up shops etc. The reason for my stay was the Parco Dei Templi, it didn’t disappoint! Travelling early season has its ups and downs, whilst the Parc was busy … the first Sunday of the month entrance is free, it wasn’t overly crowded. The spring wild flowers and the peach and almond blossom were a bonus! The weather was perfect sunny but not too hot for walking.

Valley of the Temples was a great experience.

Valley of the Temples was a great experience. Traffic is crazy for the size of the city. Finding parking was an adventure. You better have a gps to figure out the streets in Agrigento. When we found a place to eat, we couldn't find a parking spot. A plus for Agrigento is its location overlooking the Valley of the Temples and surrounding area and sea view.

Agrigento is a compact town so getting around is easy.

Agrigento is a compact town so getting around is easy. It's pretty quiet (October) and mainly filled with locals. The Old Town is picturesque. There were still plenty of restaurants open. My primary purpose in going to Agrigento was to see the Valley of the Temples which I would recommend as it a unique site and worth a visit. The local buses are inexpensive and can get you around. Taxis for the rest. I did speak with folk who raved about La Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps). Given another day I would have definitely visited as it is reminiscent of the salt cliffs/steps in Turkey. Apparently the other beaches near Agrigento are also good. I'm not a beach person though I do like the coast. To sum up Agrigento is worth a day preferably two if going around Sicily or longer if you're a beach lover. There are an abundance of places to eat

Newly furnished to an exceptionally high standard. The bed was the most comfortable bed we have had from a booking.com stay and the quality of the bedding was top notch. Kitchen facilities superb. 2 bathrooms so we had a bathroom each Good location and very close to the station Excellent restaurant just below the property which we would definitely recommend Close to the town centre too The host was the friendliest, most helpful , attentive host that we have ever had in Sicily.

The flat was very stylish decorated and comfortable. Luca the host was extremely supportive and nice. We got. a lot of good advices and tippsfrom him. He was one of the very few hosts at Sicily who wellcomed us personally and also said good bye in Person. The flat on the 4th floor, which can be reached by elevator. We had coffee, tea, jam and Croissants for breakfast. There are free parking spaces in the surounding streets. The Bus stop is nearby.

The apartment was perfect for our one night stay (Sicily road trip). Alida met us at the apartment and directed us where to park. The apartment was quiet and the beds comfortable. We returned from the Valley of the Temples and Alida had left us a traditional Sicilian dish to try, which was so thoughtful and delicious. A beautiful view from the balcony out to the Valley of the Temples that glow gold at night.
