Spread over 5000 m², this must-see market is open from Monday until Saturday and gives you an insight on Catania’s picturesque folklore.

Sicilian islands

The 13th-century Ursino Castle was built to protect the city and is currently a museum hosting art exhibitions by local emerging artists.

Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples

Agrigento, with its ancient Greek temples and the archeological site of the Valley of the Temples, is definitely a must when visiting Sicily.

Kayak around the Aeolian Islands

The Aeolian Islands and especially Vulcano Island with its grottos and natural pools are great for kayaking and other water activities.

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

It is significantly more than a hotel, it is a very large resort, with a completely private beach, a very large swimming pool next to the beach (warning: that swimming pool is not heated, so it was quite cold in May), a Spa complex with a very nice and long indoor (heated) swimming pool, and several also very nice and large spa baths outside (these ones with warm water). The Spa reservation system ensures there are only a few guests at any time, no large crowd, and children aren't authorized in the Spa complex unless the weather is bad. The restaurants were excellent, I particularly recommend to have lunch next to the large outdoor pool, but the other two restaurants and the breakfast are excellent. Very nice room, loved the large private terrace. Everything was top notch. We had a small issue with our shower (rain shower stuck), and it was fixed very promptly. All the staff was super nice. We didn't play golf, but you can use one of the freely available bikes to cycle around the golf course, which is very nice (it is a private complex, so no external car).

This is my second time at this resort. It is so peaceful, surrounded by trees. Beach is amazingly beautiful. Pools- you are spoilt for choice. The animation team is great!!!We had a soft spot for Tommaso, he was so humble and kind and funny ...but truly all of them were great 😁 The staff at the pool bar were always gentle and professional too. Perfect place if you want to relax, especially with kids. Kids clubs are amazing, however kids need to know Italian, as most of the team are Italian speaking only.

We absolutely loved Palermo!

We absolutely loved Palermo! ❤️ The food, atmosphere, beautiful streets and amazing restaurants made our stay unforgettable. The local restaurant recommendations were fantastic and helped us discover some wonderful places. The city can be busy and a little chaotic at times, but that’s also part of its unique charm. We would definitely come back and highly recommend Palermo to others! 🇮🇹😍

It was a bit chaotic, but if you stay in the vicinty of the hotel Europa Centrale, Piazza Duomo, Via Etnea etc, it's safe. However don't venture near the market, as it is horrible. Transport is not of the best, and you have to always go to the bus station if you want to be sure to get your correct bus. Forget the tourist train ride, especially after dinner - it's an extremely bumpy ride, if you go with Hop on hop off bus to Acicastello, you might just as well remain on the bus, as there is nothing to see and there is no shade whatsoever. However the bus ride was enjoyable .

Absolutely Worth Visiting – One of the Highlights of Sicily!

Absolutely Worth Visiting – One of the Highlights of Sicily! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We were very pleasantly surprised by Syracuse and absolutely loved our time there. It is a beautiful destination with an amazing combination of history, culture, architecture, sea views and authentic Sicilian atmosphere. Ortigia is particularly charming, with its narrow streets, beautiful squares, historic buildings, restaurants and lovely waterfront. There is so much to discover, and simply walking around and enjoying the atmosphere is an experience in itself. Syracuse also offers many fascinating historical and archaeological sites, making it a perfect destination for anyone who wants to combine sightseeing with relaxation and good food. We also took a boat trip along the coast and had the opportunity to see the caves from the sea, which was a wonderful experience and gave us a completely different perspective of this beautiful area. We left Syracuse with wonderful memories and were genuinely impressed by everything the city and surrounding area have to offer. Definitely worth visiting when travelling around Sicily. We would happily return! 🇮🇹❤️

Typical tourist hot spot.

Typical tourist hot spot. Prices can be over the top at some places but fair if you look hard enough. I've paid €20 for a hamburger that wasn't that great and at the same area had the best authentic Mediterranean bread roll loaded with stuff for €7. Sad to see the profiteering happening but it's expected in these places that rely on the few months available to them to make a year's earnings in a few months.

This a great town for a small stay (2 to 4 days).

This a great town for a small stay (2 to 4 days). Parking is a huge challenge, and getting your luggage into the historic center (a ZTL you cannot drive in) is another significant challenge. We had to park near the beach at significant daily cost and drag our bags across the cobblestones to our lodging. Not unusual for Europe, but pointing out the logistical challenges. We visited the beach often, but it gets insanely crowded (as many popular Italian beaches do.) The town is so lively, and the historic area is so nice. it's worth the challenges, as long as you plan for them.

A great place to relax and plan day trips just a short distance from the city to Erice, Favignana, the salt fields, and other destinations. Excellent restaurants with great food. Plenty of car, scooter, and bike rentals in town and around the port. There are markets offering fresh seafood, fruit, and vegetables.

The location was perfect. The water was not very clean (I felt sticky when I would leave the beach) and there were too many vendors walking on the beach selling things. Also too many people offering their services such as massages, fruits, coconuts, etc. It was hard to just sit and relax.

Castellammare del Golfo is a beautiful and charming town with a great atmosphere, lovely restaurants, beaches and a picturesque harbour. What we especially liked was that it still feels very local, with plenty of Sicilians and without being overcrowded with international tourists. It’s also a perfect base for exploring northwestern Sicily, with Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Segesta, Trapani and Marsala all within easy reach. A great combination of authentic Sicilian life, beaches, food and day trips. Definitely a place we would come back to.
