Catania is a very enjoyable and enchanting city. It was robust and full of life. There were many restaurants, cafes, shops and beautiful sites to see. We could have easily stayed a couple of more days in this lovely city.

It's a poor relation to nearby tourist centres like Taormina, but there's enough to do for a couple of days of wondering the town and taking in the attractions, bars and cafes. Plenty of good restaurants and lively bars in the evening if that's your thing.
Away the main tourist areas, the city gets very dirty very quickly - litter in the streets and graffiti everywhere, but it always felt safe. Driving looks like it would be a nightmare once you're off the main streets.
I would recommend Catania to use as a base to explore Etna and the surrounding area rather than a destination in its own right.

The apartment is quiet and close to the main route to the Centre. About 15 minutes walk. Botanical gardens near and great cafe around the corner. Italian neighborhood which we liked. Via Etna, close by has all the shops and cafes you need on it. We prepared meals at home in the apartment and went to cafes late afternoon.

Catania is a dirty city.
Catania is a dirty city. There was rubbish piled up at street corners which in the heat of the day became smelly. A lot of it was cleared during the night, but it soon built up again during the day. If you can stay to the north and west of the Duomo square, around Via Etnea it's better. If you can, take a tour of Etna and Taormina, which is a lovely town.

The center is very nice and full of amazing restaurants and cafés and a great fish market where one can eat amazing seafood. Real fresh good food. The Etna is amazing too and so close to the city, a really amazing site.
The apartment is in the very center of the city. Extremely clean, comfortable and functional accommodation. Towels are changed daily. The hotel organizes taxi transport from the airport. An extremely kind driver, I would say a friend of the hotel owner, explained to us what to see, visit, where the good restaurants are. Everything was great. Warm recommendation to everyone who wants to visit Catania.
The apartment was very clean and comfortable, with an excellent kitchen, bathroom and living area. It is located very close to the markets and restaurants with some of the freshest seafood possible. The location is also close to a bus terminal with connections to/from the airport and to other towns around Sicily. This is a great place to stay for exploring Catania and the surrounding area.
Simple but clean rooms. A family staff ready to share with you suggestion of the city.
Great location, close to restaurant and market areas. Just a few walk from the direct bus to the airport from Catania.
Nice original painting, also oil ones, all around the hotel
Clean, Bright and modern hotel in good location to look around Catania and convenient for the airport. Was able to park on the street right next to the hotel. Restaurant just up from the hotel was very good also.
