As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza swathed in vibrant pink blossom, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in paradise. The stunning location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.
However, it’s not its only glory. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the Greek Theatre is also a triumph. Its largely intact seating offers wonderful views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Spine-tingling summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars also offer live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, whose clock tower and church are overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the centre of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the south-west is the long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and north is the bay by Mazzaró.
As you would expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there is no shortage of Taormina accommodation on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, town centre apartments and luxury B&Bs.

Taormina is a beautiful town with abundant places to explore. Due to it's popularity, it is extremely busy during the summer months,. It is also very hot in July and August which can be a deterent to sight seeing.
There are several restaurants that offer sea views, but they very overpriced.
The beaches are pebble not sand and you need to walk down several flights of stairs to reach them.
There are some excellent boat tours and all day excursions to Etna, Catania, and more.

Taormina is just one big tourist trap. Huge disappointment to spend euro 12 p.p. to see the AnticoTheatre Taormina which has been renovated with wooden benches and plastic chairs. Sad that it has become so commercial. Don't go there.

Taormina is a stunning hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily, with picturesque views and vibrant culture.
Favorite Places in Taormina for my family were: Ancient
1- The theatre of Taormina, its well-preserved ruins, and the dramatic backdrop make it a must-visit.
2- Isola Bella, a nature reserve connected to the mainland by a narrow path. It's perfect for sunbathing and exploring the area's natural beauty.
3—Corso Umberto is the main pedestrian street in Taormina, lined with charming shops, cafes, and historic buildings.
4- Piazza IX Aprile, A scenic square with stunning views and several cafes.
5- Cable Car (Funivia): The cable car connects Taormina with the beach area of Mazzarò.
6- Gelato Tasting, everywhere you find a gelaterie.

The view and location in the heart of the old town.
The view and location in the heart of the old town. Apartment was very clean. The kitchen is modern. There is no lounge just a single armchair and dining table on lower level with kitchen. Beautiful view from kitchen. Stairs upto 2 bedrooms which interconnect. No door between them. Through the main bedroom to the roof top terrace. Great for a family but could be akward with 2 couples or friends. 1 bathroom, off main bedroom which would be small for 4 but perfect for myself and 2 daughters.

If you are physically unfit or disabled this is not the place for you. No access for wheelchairs or kids buggies. Very steep hills and steps everywhere. You really need to be a mountain goat. Also beware of rogue airport taxi drivers who overcharge. Catania airport to Taormina max 120 euros. There is a bus terminal at Catania airport which cost 9 euros to Taormina.

Stunning place. Loads to do and see.
Stunning place. Loads to do and see. Super expensive part of Sicily, felt a bit ripped off (taxis! Sunbeds! Wine!). Loads of places to eat and generally great quality food. Might be challenging for older people or with mobility issues as so many hills. Cable car between beach and town was fab and reliable but expensive to keep going up and down. Parking impossible so I’m glad we didn’t have a car. Station is several km away so need taxi, 25 euros for a 5 min ride? If coming for a beach holiday only stay in a hotel that has its own sunbeds otherwise crazy expensive to rent, or very uncomfortable to lie on the cobbles. The sort of place you need to plan well before you visit to get the best out of it.
The Staff make it.
It has all you need
Bang centre of town
With the addition of the best restaurant in Taormina if you are a foodie.
Kepos restaurant takes a 3 star hotel to a 5 star heaven.
Lemon Grove private Garden for breakfast and chilling.
There is the best Pizza in town on the back steps. Ulysses Grotto
The roof top pool and deck are great for lazy days chilling in the sun.
But the staff are amazing be sure and look after them. Very rare to find such genuine hospitality.
I was very surprised
This is an underrated find for sure.
Our second time staying at this hotel and it was absolutely perfect (again). The staff were amazing and even gave us a room upgrade upon check in which we were super grateful for. The location is perfect with a 2 minute walk into the old town of Taormina and the hotel itself is stunning, perfectly decorated and has a beautiful vibe. We will continue to visit this hotel each time we travel to Sicily (which is often!)
The staff were super helpful and friendly.
Fantastic sea and Etna views from the lovely terrace with a bar.
Bed was very comfortable with good quality cotton linen.
Lovely pool area.
Access to the sister hotel on the beach, via a shuttle bus, for a modest amount, including beds, parasol, and towels for the day. Great to have the beach option during the day, and stay in the centre in the evening.
Excellent hotel location by the sea with room and balcony view out over the bay towards Italy in very distance.
Breakfast and dinner were great with plenty of choice and efficient and friendly staff service.
Reception friendly - organising taxis into Taormina.
Private beach with all facilities - beds, umbrellas, towels, life guards.
Expensive but worth it to relax and feel pampered!!
We had 2 rooms and they were both really nice , but the second one with see view was excellent . I love staying at this hotel , despite that is in need of renovation and modernisation is still one of the best in Taormina, because of its location, its friendly staff and its super clean .
It's the first hotel that I recommend to all friends and family who want experience Sicily.
