A special mention for the attention to detail and the cozy atmosphere. Communication with the host was excellent — very polite, helpful, and always available. Even though we only spoke by phone, we truly felt the care and hospitality. The location is convenient, with everything you need nearby. We also received great recommendations on where to eat — the pizza was really delicious 😊 We would definitely recommend this place and would be happy to come back again! Rating: 10/10

Apart from the excavations, there is not a lot to do or see in Ercolano. If you are a light sleeper, like me, avoid staying on Corso Resina. Busy thoroughfare, day and night. I would advise getting to the ruins early if you value peace and quiet and like to take your time and be lost in you own thoughts and imagination. Loud tour guides and big groups spoilt some of my time there as I had to abandon some spots sooner than I would have liked! I picked up provisions in the local supermarkets and alimentari as most of the eateries between the station and Herculaneum are geared for tourists. Great, if that is what you prefer. Easy to find your way around - from where I was staying, it was just as convenient to use Portici-Ercolano station and the trains were much nicer. As a lone female, I found the Circumvesuviana train did not announce stations and due to graffiti covering the trains, including the windows, and the lack of signage at stations, it was a little stressful getting there after dark. That said, €3.40 to get to Sorrento (single fare) was a bargain! If you are into history, definitely pay a visit to the MANN museum (Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli). Again, my advice is to get there early (opens 9am) if you want to avoid the crowds.

We really wanted to see the archaeological site and stay at...

We really wanted to see the archaeological site and stay at Villa Durante. Both places didn't disappoint. We also found good restaurants there. Pedestrian pavements were better than in Naples but still difficult to walk on with luggage. It is a good place to stay if travelling on to Pompeii or Sorrento.

Perfect smaller alternative to Pompeii. Some places better preserved, shorter walking experience, walkable in few hours/half day, cheaper. Better than Pompeii for family with easily bored kids, less crowdy.

You can just soak up the history, not just in the 2000 year...

You can just soak up the history, not just in the 2000 year old Roman ruins of Herculeaum but also as you stroll through the lanes and passages of Ercolono itself, a wonderful town in it's own right.

It’s not the most beautiful town but the view from our appartment had beautiful views of the bay of Naples for a lot less than you pay in Sorrento. It’s a very good spot to catch the train to Pompeii ( the ruins are right beside Pompeii Scavi station change at Torre de Annunziata) Sorrento, Vesuvius and the stunning Herculaneum. There are plenty of great places to eat and a few volcanic sand beaches to relax after a long walk up a volcano. We enjoyed our pizzas at RoVi and walked into Portici for drinks at Vivarium’s rooftop bar and a fantastic seafood tasting menu at Da Guisieppe al Granatello

Nice area to walk around although many restaurants close in the afternoon and then open after 7pm. Some were closed for the summer season. There was some litter on the streets. People were very friendly and helpful.

The staff were helpful; the breakfast was good. The location is superb, right across the street from the ruins of Herculaneum, and close to restaurants. My room was on an upper story facing the inner courtyard, hence it was well protected from street noise and I never had a problem with noise from other guests. The decor was good. I was able to leave my luggage in a storage room after check-out in order to explore the ruins. Later I could sit out on the dining terrace to charge my phone and check train routes.

A fantastic apartment; newly refurbished, fully equipped and spotlessly clean. Emanuele was a brilliant host; really helpful and friendly. The location is great - tucked away in the heart of Ercolano, but close to the ruins of Herculaneum, and a short walk to either the small beach or the station for trains to Pompeii or Naples. We had a lovely stay and would thoroughly recommend. Just be aware that parking would be difficult if you were to drive and there are steps up to the apartment.

The host Alessandro met us on site to show us all the facilities and to make sure we had all we needed to enjoy our stay. Everything about the place has been well thought of and is top class. Alessandro and Beppe at the bar were great hosts. Everything was nearby, the railway station, Herculaneum ruins and restaurants and shops. Easy to get around to Pompeii, Sorento and Naples for day trips.

We liked the location of the hotel within Ercolano. It was close to the train station, Hercolaneum ruin site, markets and restaurants. We would like to commend Alfredo, a pool guard, who took care of all guests, the pool itself and was very kind. Unfortunately, he was there only one day out of eight.
