Location near the train station is great. It's also right near a pedestrian areas with small shops. The room was large and had a view of the train station. Very high ceilings. 24 hour desk - all with very polite gentlemen. When I reported the internet out in our area at 6 am, the guy immediately did a check and fixed it. Very impressive! Very helpful with travel advice and storing our bags. I really enjoyed the guys working there. Excellent value.

FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

    Nice city.

Nice city. We spent about half a day here as we were here to embark/disembark on a cruise. The marine area is nice, we saw lots of people queuing for the aquarium which is highly rate, although we didn't visit it. The streets that lead into the 'old town' are really reminiscent of a medina in Morocco - think maze-like setup with very high buildings, and businesses mixed in with homes. So treat walking through them like an adventure. We passed the famous Focaccia bakery which had a very long line! And had the best pesto pasta in a cafe outside of the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, for our lunch. After that, we didn't spend too much more time in the area as we had a Portofino boat tour booked for the afternoon / early evening. Portofino is very pricey but views are instagram-genic so it's a popular tourist spot. Overall I would visit again for a long weekend as it's a very charming city, and for the pesto.

Lovely city, easy to get around.

Lovely city, easy to get around. The foreshore areas are lovely and the cafes and restaurants are great. Pasta Street is a good restaurant nearby. A close pharmacy and small grocer. Funicular to Righi a must. An historical city of great interest. We are older and found it really easy to get around on foot and by bus.

I love Genoa, but it would not be for everybody.

I love Genoa, but it would not be for everybody. If you require lots and lots of monuments, it's probably not for you. I like it because it is close to the sea, has enough interesting things to do, has wonderful food and is a very good value. Also, the people are wonderful and the crowds are much thinner here. But, if you don't speak any Italian or if this is your first trip to Italy, you may not feel the same way. I have been to Italy many times and speak passable Italian. Also, I understand how the system works over there. This might be a challenge for a first-timer.

Genova was a surprise, it's a new location at WizzAir, we have chosen first due to its price. It has a very good atmosphere - old Italian city with good food, very good weather, chill everywhere, monuments. We have not liked the narrow alleys in the old town - GPS and Google Maps was completely lost in the myriad of small streets inhabited by dubious inhabitants... Absolutely worth to see, and visiting Bocadasse is a must.

Historic medieval city center, amazing churches and palaces...

Historic medieval city center, amazing churches and palaces (palazzo,s), beautiful commercial streets with famous and less famous italian brunds, excellent not so expensive variety of italian restaurants, excellent location for daily or two day trips to the lovely surroundings: Portofino, chinque terre, nice hiking roots all around Genova and chinque terre, portofino, excellent train connecrion and public transportation Weather more rainy and cold but this is something to expect for North Italy in October. I would not recommend it for summer vacation because the beaches for swimming in summer are only few and not so amazing (note I come from Greece so my standards for beaches are high,,,). I would recommend it for city break, hiking sightseeing. Besides It is not socrowded like other famous italian cities

Genova has a slightly edgy feel but everyone is friendly.

Genova has a slightly edgy feel but everyone is friendly. There are very narrow passage ways in the old town with plenty of small local places to eat. They turn over the covers quickly but the prices are very reasonable. If you like travelling it is worth getting a five hour transport pass and ride up and down the many lifts and funicular railways at the back of the town. If you walk round the harbour take the ferry round the port, past the airport and back. Its worth seeing Genova from the water.

The hotel is located in the marina area and near to the old town. The major attractions and good restaurants are within walking distance. The breakfast spread was comprehensive with many local special dishes. The best that my family had in my one week stay in Italy. Please ignored those touts who try to direct you to a neighbouring carpark at the entrance of the car park hotel. Highly recommended.

The best host. Amazing Apartment. Felt like home! They welcomed us, and came to say farewell when we left, which is really nice since most of the hosts leave the keys in the box and you never see them. We also got a gift. Really, the best of Italy! Thank you! 🩷

Much as I would like, I cannot review the Hotel Continental because, on arrival, we were informed that we had been upgraded to an Executive room in the next door 5-star Grand Hotel Savoia. No idea why! But now that is a beautiful hotel and well worth a '10'
