Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.
Beautiful buildings with lots to see. Great location for catching the train to Portofino, Ligure and 5 terres. Lots of places to eat at reasonable prices. There is a Red bus and small train excursion to familiarise your self with the city. Short journey from Airport with excellent rail links
A couple of full days is enough to get a good feel for the old town. It’s an easy walking town. Palaces, museums are excellent. Would try to avoid Monday as most are closed. If you stay any longer, I hen the seaside towns along the coast are easily accessible by train from any of the many Genova railway stations
Genoa is a very interesting city. The old city is pretty unique and has many alleyways and traffic free throughfares, generally safe during the daytime. The harbour is much updated and eating places abound. The metro service allows travel around the central area and several funiculars & lifts give access to great viewpoints in this hilly city. Treinitalia local trains will take you along the coast to lovelly seaside towns and villages.
Beautiful city on the water. It is a little rough around the edges, but this just adds to its charm. Graffitti isn't very welcoming to tourists but we had no trouble at all and found the local people both friendly and very helpful. So glad to have visited Genoa. A really cultural city with past residents who have changed the world.
Great atmosphere, lots to see and places to visit both during the day and evening. Very reasonably priced restaurants with a good choice of excellent food. Friendly and polite. Good shopping. Bring comfortable footwear as it is best to see on foot as there are lots of alleyways with lovely little cafes or shops.
Excellent experience in Genoa, a beautiful surprise for a first time in Italy. I was amazed by the relative cleaness, kindness of locals who were helpful and patient with the crowd of tourists. The beaches and water is clear and clean. If you like culture and architecture, you ll be served with the old buildings, churches and casttles. There are many attractions like museums, castles and the city walk tours. I highly recommend the local food and products, small restaurants are even better, Italian local products are exquisite The surrounding area is gorgeous too as the cinco terre and the south coast of Genoa
We would give this place 100 stars if we could. Everything was perfect and the hosts were so helpful, kind and friendly. The room was very nice, the bed was perfect, the breafast was absolutely delicious. Matteo went out of his way to help park our car in a secure space and take us to it in the morning. His wife was so sweet and accommodating for our late arrival due to some train delays. This is one of the best B n Bs we have ever stayed in. Thank you so much for a warm welcome to Italy ❤️
Breakfast was amazing, eggs & bacon on the way to Liguria, my kids were delighted! Room was spacious and beds so very comfortable. Such a convenient location on the way to the Italian coast & Tuscan hills. And such good value. We will definitely plan future car trips to Italy with this hotel in mind, to start the night before, stop at this hotel, and arrive at our destination earlier.
The location was excellent. Close to the train station and most attractions in Genoa. The room was clean and quiet, spacious for the twin selection. All the hotel staff members were very friendly and kind, especially the ladies at the reception and the dining area. We were allowed to check in early, our room being ready upon arrival.
Genoa
Thanks a lot to owner- Vittorio and his family for hospitality! The appartments is very comfortable and nice, very clean! There are a lot of necessary things, so our rest was very good and cozy! I strongly recommended it for all, who wants to feel real Italy, its culture, spirit and hospitality! Bravissimo, Vittorio!! Grazie mille!!
great location on the port. lovely views from the rooftop terrace— served quite possibly the best hotel breakfast we had during our three week tour of Italy. we also enjoyed delicious cocktails at night. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a suite which has multiple balconies and a delightful spa tub.
Genoa
Comparing to all previous hostel I've seen in Italy this is a true gem. Very kind and helpful administrator, nice common space, overall great atmosphere. There are enough toilets for everyone. And you can leave your luggage for free, unlike in other hostels you have to pay for a storage
- WiFi is the best in all Italy, it was super fast! - it has a pharmacy next door which is very nice - very close to the train station and to the center of the city, very walkable. - the staff was very kind and stayed late to help us, very helpful! - the beds were comfortable
Location in the old town of Genoa was good — IF you want to be in the middle of the old town with no taxi access. Close to sites, shopping, good restaurants. But charming hotel- nice building renovated, good breakfast, very comfortable room.
Breakfast was amazing. For Italy the beds were harder which we welcomed, because we hate soft beds with strings. We couldn't find the accomodation, because the Google was wrong but the owner answered quickly and helped.
An authentic experience in a traditional guesthouse. immaculately clean with lovely white linen and towels. Beds were comfortable and the shower the best I’ve had in two weeks travel through Italy.
Location was great with parking close by. Room was bright and airy. Lovely barman when we returned to hotel for nightcap. Very good value for money. Lovely hotel with spectacular stairway.
Hotel is located in a quiet location with parking on the street which is free from 8pm till 8am. Hotel manager is very kind and eager to help. Rooms were clean and cozy.
Genoa
Highly recommended Very modern, very clean facilities, small details that make a difference Just excellent comparing to some awful old hotels you get in Italy
Genoa
Very quaint for Italy, standard room old fashioned but stylish! Breakfast was nice continental. We only stayed one night as a stop over.
They upgraded us to the Grand Hotel Savoia next door which was lovely!
Literally nothing good to say about this hotel, such a disappointment
Very convenient location, clean and welcoming boutique hotel.
Hotel on the beach, near shops
