How many people can say they’ve stayed in a 15th-century convent? You can if you book Relais Chiostro di Pienza, a charming hotel set right in the heart of Pienza.

Great view over Tuscan countryside. Great base to explore Tuscany. Town is small and flat with lots of restaurants, bars and shops.

We had 3 nights at A440 & loved every minute we were there. All communication prior to our arrival was excellent & much appreciated. Yes, the road up to the hotel is bumpy, but if you are driving in Italy then you are more than capable of navigating it. We were in a garden view room which was very nice, a little tight size wise for us, but nothing we couldn't work around with our luggage. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom a good size with efficient A/C. The pool was delightful & lounges a plenty. The large sitting room that was available for all the guests was really lovely to sit in & do some reading as well. The work up into Pienza through the forest is a brisk 10-12min walk, BUT if you don't want to be sweating & out of breath, you need to take your time walking up the steep hill & make it a 15-20min walk depending on your fitness. Our walk back from dinner in town was quite magical being lit on both sides down the hill by Fireflies - obviously a seasonal thing, but we have never seen anything like it! Apart from the surroundings & the incredible view, another highlight was the delighful Gigliola who cooked the beautiful dinners & prepared breakfast. Of our 3 night stay we ate at the hotel twice for dinner as we enjoyed Gigliola's simple dishes made with fresh local products, along with the local wine & the beautiful sunsets. We cannot recommend this hotel more highly.

Pienza is a beautiful village, the Val d'Orcia is breathtaking. We were welcomed by Paola, who is a magnificent ambassador for the property, she really made us feel incredibly welcome. The restaurant was also excellent, we had a fantastic dinner. We came off season, (March) which added to the tranquility. I think you would come here to enjoy a quiet, peaceful retreat, and it is a nice base to explore the Tuscan wine region.

Pienza is a beautiful & historic small Tuscan hill town situated in the Val D'orcia and close to the wine towns of Montalcino and Montepulciano. It's much quieter than some of the famous Tuscan towns like San Gimignano, Volterra or Montepulciano but certainly as interesting. Plenty of restaurants for eating, and the town has a beautiful balcony overlooking the valley and Monte Amiato, great for strolling in the evening. What I particularly liked as a slightly mobility-impaired visitor is that the town is built on a level hill with few inclines.

Wonderful little town, not so crowded but much nicer than other hyped destinations like Siena or San Gimignano. Lot's of plants on the street,, endless restaurants, that's exactly what we like. Also e-Bike Tuscany by Steffi is recommended to try. Scenery is unbelievely amazing.

Pienza is small but has an excellent selection for dining. Sight seeing in town is somewhat limited but affords terrific views over Val d'Orcia. If you like Pecorino cheese, you have to visit the shops in Pienza. Quick bite, try Pizzeria Pummaro near gate into old center. For charm and quality meal try Pane Vino & Zucchero. For all round the Trattoria la Buca Delle Fate is good. For a good hike outside of town, don't stop at the spot where they shot the Gladiator scene, keep going.

Pienza has one main street which means it can feel crowded when a relatively small number of people visit. There is limited free parking which is also used by residents.
There are a variety of small shops which mostly sell typical regional products. There is an abundance of Pecorino and hams. It is possible to buy a range of different quality of jewelry. There are also a few clothes shops.
There is a beautiful panoramic walk on the entrance from the North.
The town is blessed with a variety of restaurants and bars which are mostly tradition Tuscan food. There are also at least two ice cream shops.
The market takes place on Friday. In October there are a number of events such as the chocolate festival which means it gets very crowded on the weekend. There are limited public services such as clean bathrooms.
I limited the amount of time that I visited the town during my week long stay mainly due to access to parking. You have to pay 24/7 which is a problem for evening meal when travelling alone in the dark at a parking meter.

We utilised Pienza as a base from which to explore various towns within the Val D'Orcia, a world heritage area. We could have stayed longer to visit more towns and explore mountain biking trails. Pienza in itself is clean, beautifully restored, has chic dining spots and it was a privilege to have visited.
Beautiful Tuscan style house, large room with kitchen and big bathroom, very tastefully decorated with beautiful little touches.
The perfect place to stay in Tuscany, convenient location, close to Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano and Bagno Vignoni. The owner gave us a lot of information. The views from this place are magical!
Very good country house, located at a high site where you will be able to access the panoramic view of the Tuscany plain. Driving will be the most ideal way, but you could also take a taxi from Pienza and will take around 45m.
All in all, a highly recommended place. The owners are very friendly.
Loved this place, nice agriturismo in the Tuscany countryside, just minutes away from Pienza by car, close to some of the best views in Tuscany. The breakfast basket every morning was such a nice touch. Great pool and quiet, beautiful property. Great local wine for sale as well.
We stayed there for 2 nights, the location is great if you want to visit both Montalcino and Montepulciano, cause it's in between. The staff members are very nice, the breakfast is varied, the only place we stayed in in Italy that served eggs which was nice. Very clean.
