Hotel Route-Inn Yurihonjo is a 10-minute drive from JR Ugohonjo Train Station and features a free buffet breakfast with fresh-baked European breads, massage services and a hot public bath. Nice room size (compared to the general room size in Japan). Good breakfast, helpful staff. The room amenities are very nice as well.
Historical hot spring hotel Syohoen offers public baths with nature views, just 6 minutes from Mineyoshikawa Station with its complimentary shuttle service. A free-use internet PC is available. The ryokan itself was an amazingly beautiful building. Very cool to stay somewhere so traditional. Onsens were great- inside ones and private outside onsens. The staff/hosts were so very kind and helpful. They came to pick us up in free shuttle from station no problems even after I changed my travel plans a few times. Then drove us back to station next day. I had left a drink bottle in the room and another staff member got in a car and brought it to us! Dinner was a unique local produce feast. Local craft beer and sake excellent too. Presented so beautifully and host domaines all dishes. Breakfast wonderful too. It was toasty warm in our beautiful and large room.
Boasting 5 hot-spring baths and a Korean sauna, Route Inn Grantia Akita Spa Resort is 1.5 km from JR Akita Train Station. Rooms include free internet, a full bathroom and satellite TV channels. Although this hotel is a little more difficult to get to from the train station, it is definitely worth the effort. We stayed here once before and said if we were in the area we would do so again . . . and we did!! This time we stayed two nights and were able to check out some areas nearby. We enjoyed exploring Senshu Park and the Kawabata Restaurant and Bar District, which are within walking distance. This hotel was once an onsen resort and still is. The onsen is wonderful! There is a barber shop, which I tried this time and liked the hair-cut and service I received. One of the best reasons to come here is the izakaya restaurant located on the second floor of the hotel. It doesn't have an extensive selection of food, but it is good and the service is great.
Located just a 7-minute walk from JR Akita Station, Richmond Hotel Akita Ekimae offers simple and modern guestrooms featuring free Wi-Fi and an en suite bathroom. Biggest most comfortable rooms of any hotel I have stayed in in Japan, especially surprising given the reasonable price.
Offering massages and a Japanese-style pub, Daiwa Roynet Hotel Akita is a 14-minute walk from JR Akita Train Station. Rooms include an LCD TV and an en suite bathroom with a fog-free mirror. Quiet, clean, nice view, good location. The check in and out was unusual, but staff demonstrated the process.
There's a lot more here than you might imagine. The big buddha is the only one of it's kind I've seen in Japan, the Hottai waterfall is spectacular and the thousand Jizo statues are another unique sight
