Elephant Gate in Katagamuwa has a garden and a terrace. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk and a shared kitchen, along with free WiFi. Grounds and rooms well kept and clean. Lovely balcony to sit on. Big breakfast - too much for us! The owner was lovely
Jungle House is situated in 7 km from Yala National Park. Situlpawwa is 2.6 km from the property. Free private parking is available on site. We arrived in the evening find we were the only guests. It took 30 minutes from the gate of Yala park gate to their pick up point and then 30 minutes off road (We ran out of road and went through a field before reaching the camp). The camp had no electricity so no proper lighting to see, no Wi-Fi and no fridge. The food was seafood rice which we were afraid to eat because they had no fridge to store prawns in. They had a cooler bag of beer for drinks. We asked to leave as we were very uncomfortable being 2 woman in an all male camp with no comms or lighting. They took half our fee of 94 dollars before taking us back to the main road. We were relieved to get out so we paid it.
Located in Yala, Eco Island Sri Lanka Tented Safari Camp Yala offers a tenting experience. The campsite provides all meals, which are served at the restaurant. We loved that Eco Island was just a short drive from Yala National Park, yet felt very secluded and private. The tents are very spacious and comfortable, the food was incredible and beautifully presented, and the staff (including Rohith and Chamila) bent over backwards to make us comfortable and attended to our every need. The safari we booked with them was excellent and the safari jeep was modern and comfortable. Thoughtful and caring details, like the complimentary cooler of drinks for our safari, the great nature walk around the camp, the beautiful and romantic table settings, and the over-the-top towel art really made Eco Island stand out as a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka.
Big Game Camp Yala is located on the edge of Yala National Parks, a 20-minute drive from the Katagamuwa park entrance. We stayed here for 1 night, which included 2 meals (lunch and dinner), breakfast and safari. Staff extremely helpful and nice. Service was prompt. Food was delicious. They have beautiful arrangements for the dinner with bonfire and tables around it. We went for an evening safari and were very lucky to spot 2 leopards. Tents are comfortable.
Boasting a shared lounge, garden and views of garden, Funky Leopard Safari Hostel is situated in Kataragama, 5 km from Kataragama Temple. I really recommend to stay at Funky Leopard Safari Hostel! I stayed there only for 1 night but wouldn't mind to stay longer. It's placed in very nice and quiet area and not too far from the entrance of the park. Staff was amazing, really! They treated me like a friend not a visitor and helped me as much as they could - they managed my morning drive and even gave the wood apple from the tree, how sweet they are! :) Don't waste your time of searching for a restaurant in Kataragama as you can order food at the hostel - I ordered dinner (6$) and got carrot soup as a starter and huge portion of rice with vegetables and falafel as a main course + fruits as a desert (I'm vegetarian). It's new made building with very clean and modern facilities and they provide very good unlimited internet connection(the fastest connection what I had in all Sri Lanka). Everything was excellent! Thank you very much Funky Leopard Safari Hostel Team! :)
