The bungalow looks very small from the outside, but when you enter, you feel like entering Harry Potter's suitcase as it is immensely much bigger than it seems. The decoration of the room and the equipment are so beautiful, comfortable and practical. We loved the secluded terrace (we only saw the light of the neighbors through the trees) from where we were able to spot a small fox as well as a boar. Alexa turned off the lights for us and played the music we wanted ;-). If the sun does not shine long enough to provide warm water, you can just press a red button to start the boiler. We always enjoyed the 5 minute walk (we had the bungalow furthest away, so the distances are really not far + a torch is provided) to the restaurant where Manuel always welcomed us in a good mood and served us from a big menu selection. The cleaning lady does a fantastic job. Efficient and neat!!! Thanks for the laundry service and the lunch box which we took for our trip to Calakmul. A great place to visit. Don't miss the Cenote de los murcielagos in the evening, when millions of bats leave the cave to hunt (approximately 39minutes by car).

Delightful pink hotel! We arrived late and the carpark attendant was very helpful in advising where to find food at that time. Room was clean and beds were very comfy didn’t get to use the pool. Ample and secure parking! We had a very short stay as we left early to get to Calakmul. Good location for this adventure!

Helped to organise my trip to Calakmul. Nice area, not far from the main centre of time. The cabañas were pleasant, with a clean bathroom and warm shower. Mosquito net provided also. A pleasant stay.

Beside the noise in the evening due to our bedroom being on the avenue side, everything was very good. Bed quality was very good, cleanliness perfect, hot water and water pressure ok, parking in front and good restaurant.

The Maya train is now functional.

The Maya train is now functional. Apparently most travelers go to Calakmul, the larger Maya archaological site in the area. But there are other hidden treasures! We visited Becan, Hormiguero and Xpujil archaeological sites, and we were generally the only ones there . We were a group of bird watchers, and there are fantastic birds to see going to and at each archaeological site. Our guide, when separated from the group, came face to face with a jaguar on the road. Wow! The most amazing natural attraction in the area is the bat cave that has the largest cocnentration of bats in all of the Americas-- some 3 million! You can view this phenomenon by arriving around 4:30 or 5 pm for a short guided walk to the cave opening. Xpujil has several great (and inexpensive) restaurants.

It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.

It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology. But you need to be up for a "half horse" town. To get to a basic restaurant we walked through the middle of roadworks. Most roads giving access to the hotel were closed for road works and of course there are no diversions..you just work it out! But the archaeology is fabulous though to get to Calakmul was a 3 hour drive each way .

Beautiful site right off the road.

Beautiful site right off the road. Walk to the Mirador Maya Hotel. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and as of September, 2023, you can climb everything. There's no pyramid, but the main structure is very tall and impressive. Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are pretty intense.

Xpujil itself is not worth visiting.

Xpujil itself is not worth visiting. It is a good town to stay if you are travelling trough the area (for example when visiting Calakmul) and need a place to sleep. There is a small supermarket and a nice pizza restaurant. Be aware that there are only two banks and their ATM's at the time of our visit both of them did not have any money in them for two days.

Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul...

Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul municipality (which is large). Although this little town is not particularly oriented towards tourism, it is the best location to stay connected & have all services within easy reach so you can move between main sites and attractions around the Calakmul area. Near Xpujil you will find from four to six striking archaeological sites and all of them are worth the visit. Of course, the most impressive one is Calakmul but there is plenty to do beyond that outstanding stop. For instance, you can ask a cab to take you to "Ejido 20 de Noviembre" and visit plenty of craft workshops (wood carving, embroidery by hand and by machine among others). I really enjoyed my visit to Hilos de Vida, Amanecer de Rio Bec & Artesanos Sabios since they give you a nice explanation on their crafts and sometimes they even offer a class for you to take (they also can get you a guide if you need translation aid). Whether you are traveling with family, couple or by yourself, I really recommend to book no less than two nights in Casa Ka'an (about 8 to 10 minutes by car near Xpujil), 'cause they have everything you expect and a little bit more in a really cute jungle lodge composed by very independent villas which happen to be surrounded by the most wonderful environment. Needless to say that a chat with the manager (Nicolás) is always enlightening so if you catch him ask for his views on the area. Last but no least... you will boost your experience in the region if you move around in a 4WD or even better in your own bike.

Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul...

Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul Biosphere. None are really close and you need a vehicle to get to the main part of the park. Xpujil, is little neighborhood town, not too close to ruins or highway. We enjoyed walking around town and looking at birds and the old frame houses.

Really clean houses and comfortable. We Saw monkeys, tukan and a fox in the forest near the houses. Its only a short drive from the village. Friendly staff. Its true that xpujil and calakmul are under construction at the moment because of the tren maya. But still it was very much worth the visit. We were at the ruins with only a handful of other people. Really an amazing experience and eco aldea is s perfect place to visit them.

This was a really fun, quirky but still incredibly comfortable place to stay in Xpujil. The shower is beautiful and the toilets very clean. Of course there is the occasional ant/spider, but this was absolutely fine. The full-sized bed was beautifully comfortable, and the AC made it the perfect temperature at any time of day. A 10 minute walk from the town centre, but this means it is peacefully tucked away.

It is very pretty and the beds are super comfortable and it is all new. We had a good sleep after long drive and we were happy that Calakmul is so close that we only had to driver for like 15-20 minutes in the morning. We liked the balcony and the view to the jungle. The hotel also have 2 rooftop pools, but we didnt have time to use them.
