Van der Valk Hotel Assen is a 4-star hotel, set just off the A28 highway to Groningen. It is located at the edge of the Baggelhuizerplas and at a distance of 1.6 mi from Assen. My stay at the Van der Valk Hotel Assen hotel was great! My room was super big and super clean and the breakfast was delicious and huge. The staff was also very helpful!
Located in Assen in the Drenthe region, with Drents Museum nearby, B&B in de Kloosterhof provides accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. The host was informative and welcoming. She offered her bike, if I wanted to ride. (Most bike friendly province in the most bike friendly country) Clean & bright. All necessary amenities provided. Super convenient to museum. Park almost right out the door. Steps away from market (Wed&Saturday). Restaurants, cafes, shops, pancake ship, canal- all in 5 minutes walk. Asserbos & Dierpark 10-15 minutes. Would recommend & stay again.

Located in a former residence of the first governor of Assen Petrus Hofstede, Gouverneur appartement is set along the canal Vaart and next to Asserbos, only a 5-minute walk from the city center. Easy check-in, room is beautifully furnished with an amazing bathroom and lots of extra touches. Bed was comfy and a great size, my husband is very tall! Location is great for Assen TT, it’s a short drive away. The town turns in to a festival for the MotoGP racing weekend with various stages playing different music, street food and a real buzz! Breakfast was fresh, great coffee too. The breakfast room is open to use during the day with WiFi, we had some work to do so used this quiet space and had a coffee too. The hosts offer wine, beer, soft drinks, snacks etc with an honesty box, great idea! The whole atmosphere was lovely, parking at the rear in a private area, walking distance to town and a 10-15 minute drive to Assen TT.

Assen is a beautiful city, and is perfect for a visit, We go every year for the BSB races, we always come away feeling like we want to stay longer, locals are so friendly, the streets are clean, I always visit Deer Park a lovely park with friendly Red Deer who will happily take carrots off passing visitors. Take the walk or cycle through Asserbos a wood full of paths and trees with bird houses on them the Dutch care. Eating out is full of choices, various restaurants are located in the square. The station is in the centre so go to Gronigen a city of diversity and students, the museum is worth a visit, marvel at the Martino Tower and walk up to the top for a view of Gronigen. Train takes 17 minutes. Two hours away is Amsterdam and trains are comfy, regular (even on Sunday) so no excuses.
There are lots of places to eat and drink in Assen but the town is incredibly quiet at night with no one walking about. This gives a bit of a dead atmosphere in my opinion. Not the place to go if you want to party. Fortunately, for me anyway, this meant quiet nights with plenty of sleep.
Clean, friendly and vibrant town, plenty of food options, reasonable pricing, keep your eyes peeled for cyclists, they appear from nowhere! Transport good, trains, buses and taxis all at the same location, bikes for hire to enable you to become one of the traveling masses!
Assen is a small and quite city in north Holland, I wouldn’t make a speacial trip only to visit here, but if it’s on your way, you will find a lively center with shops and great restaurants with delicious food! I especially recommend the Tapas bar Villa Tapas and on Wednesdays morning there’s a market right in the center. Nice to walk around.
Assen is a paradise place! So compact, but so classic and historical. There are many cute houses, cozy cafes and restaurants in the center. Visit also the museum and the garden with birds in the forest.
As a Canadian we are used to driving our vehicles everywhere but with the driving regulation here of everyone from the right having the right of way, we did not feel comfortable driving here (or riding a bike)! Enjoyed it more when I was younger in the 70s!
My stay at the Van der Valk Hotel Assen hotel was great! My room was super big and super clean and the breakfast was delicious and huge. The staff was also very helpful!
