There are many great spots in the Valle. If you like to hike it seems like there are a LOT of places to explore - some with or without a guide. I would have liked one more day to venture further to see some of the waterfalls in the area besides the most accessible one in el Valle. While it wasn't too crowded, it would have been nice to be on a quieter trail.
I liked it as a stopover place to break up the drive from Panamá city to the beach. It isn’t a very developed town as far as tourism goes so it feels off the path of all that tourist stuff. It has a great coffee shop and several good challenging hikes. I was hoping to see some wildlife on these but apparently there isn’t much unless you are a bird watcher and then it is full!! Everyone was friendly and we hooked up with a local tour guide born in Panamá who went to school in Canada and now runs his own tour company out of El Valley( Caminando tours - find on Instagram). I personally wouldn’t stay more than 2 days because it is a small place but if you like a laid back vibe and cooler climate this would be a nice place to stay for longer.
Quiet location within easy walking distance to the main street, many restaurants, food markets and walking/hiking routes into the surrounding hills. The hosts were very friendly and helpful in all regards. We also found the best empanadas in Panama! Located on the towns main street in the purple building next to the barbershop, near L'italiano Ristorante (great wood fired pizza). La Ranita Gourmet, Pekin, Zapote, were very good as well. However, we can't recommend Heavens Cafe. Try Restaurante(s) Massiel or Don Quijote (best and biggest Pina smoothie so far!) instead.
Quiet location yet within walking distance to everything you may need including: main street shops, restaurants, groceries, beer and hikes up the steep surrounding hills! Recommended businesses: *Best empanadas in Panama! (next to Barber shop adjacent to Cabanas Segura and L'italiano Ristorante). *L'italiano Ristorante (Excellent pizza at a fair price) *La Ranita Gourmet (many options) *Pekin (many options) *Zapote (Fish and pork chops were good) *Restaurant Don Quijote, Breakfast (add 1or2 eggs to omelet), best Pina smoothie so far! *Many other places to try but we ran out of time! *** Hong Kong market did not charge customary 10% tax for beer!*** Caveats: *Volcancito's turned us away Sunday morning after we took a taxi to get there. Call 1st to make sure they are serving. Don't believe the internet. We walked back to town because they wouldn't call a taxi for us. However it was an easy and very pleasant walk back. Horse riding rentals can be found along that road. * Heavens Cafe: ridiculous communication problems with employees regarding our order, and it was way overpriced for what we received. Seems popular with some people. Pina smoothie was good. Try nearby Restaurante Massiel instead.
Small town with good urban planning and nature protection vocation. Local artisans market, very pitoresque. Good spots to visit nearby, including mountain mirador and waterfalls with swiming natural basins. Xlent spot for family tour in mountain surroundings, with good road access, near Panama city.
The scenery in Valle de Anton is so nice, if I could I would move over there immediately. It is so serene. There were several type restaurants to choose from. It is so easy to get around, bycicle, foot, car, bus. All is well by me, nothing to avoid
