I felt safe walking around most every part of Arequipa, I was only sketched out and turned back on a road I didn't like once. Such fun to walk, it's cool to see the terraced farms among the urban setting. If you don't like crowds, you can easily study the map and find the busy commercial areas and avoid them. There are some hectic spots but a lot of peaceful spots and parks too. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the air pollution, I'm not used to the haze of emissions being ever present. It's not a deal breaker, but by the end of the day I was starting to notice it.
The answering options of the "How was the length of your trip?" question are limited: of course a 3-day stay is not enough to visit Arequipa. Just a proper visit to the monastery of Santa Catalina would take you an entire day. Add the museum of archeology, other 2 or 3 must-see museums, walking the historical center, tasting some authentic peruvian food and you end up needing about a week if not 10 days. Much more time, no. The city is really worth to visit. As a tourist, do not judge the local people for their way of life, or for being different. Arequipa is a good place to learn and understand that history bears most of the responsibility for what a people or a country is today. The climate is warm and very dry. Almost every day is with blue sky and hot sun. A major draw-back is the high air pollution from the dense vehicle traffic. The traffic is crazy, but I didn‘t see accidents. My advice: do not try to drive there unless you really understand how it works. There is no city-owned public transportation. There are many small companies running 10-12-seat vans (colectivos), passing at high frequency and taking you virtually anywhere. I tried to find traditional food and I found it away of the tourist area, in small restaurants without any pretension. Sitting on the steps in front of the Basilica Catedral and watching at passing people is a good way to spend some time in the early evening.
Arequipa is one of our favorite destinations in Peru. It’s architecture, food and history are outstanding. The city is clean and it’s travel opportunities, especially to the scenic Colca Valley, are wonderful.
Nice city. We enjoyed a lot walking around plaza de armas, San Lazaro, the mercado San Camilo. The visits of the covent Santa Catalina and the museo with Juanita the iced girl are a must.Dinner in the restaurant Zigzag was excellent. We should have stayed longer and visited the Colca canyon.
Lovely city. Many things to do with great and friendly people. Very diverse selection of things to do with great deals and cheap eats but also very culinary choices. Some very hip places to eat, shop and drink. Great traditional Peruvian food but Las Gringas is a great pizza place with great drinks. Arequipa is easy to get around. Monasterio de Santa Catalina is a must along with La Mansion del Fundador. Free walking tour of city great. Fantastic double decker tour of city and areas right outside. Easy to take a day trip to Cola Canyon. If traveling with kids, it's easy to break the day up with sight seeing and hanging out in Plaza de Armas. Definitely stay close to the Plaza!

The place is perfectly clean at any time. The bathroom is the best we had this far in Peru. The beds are extremely comfy. We enjoyed the breakfast very much, it varies and even depends on your wishes. But the best of the whole accommodation are the women who run the place. They were super helpful when we got ill, even made us soup. On top of that the beautiful garden was the perfect place for us to recover. Only bear in mind that the place is not in central Arequipa, but after a leisurely half hour stroll your are at the Plaza the Armas.

Staff service is superior. Locatio is just a few steps from Plaza de Armas. Room and bathrooms are clean. I arrived at Arequipa at 530 am.and they allowed me for early check in. Also, since I will miss the breakfast due to my planned tour, they gave me packed meal for me to eat on the way. They also provide toiletries that other hotels don't like tissue, qtip, cotton, and wet wipes. The hotel also has a viewing deck on the rooftop. Bfast is also superb.

We arrived at about 5:30am from the PeruHop bus tour. We were instantly allowed into one of their rooms prior to check-in free of charge. We then checked in properly to our actual room later that afternoon & it was lovely. Great views of the mountains/volcano & the facilities were setup well. The staff go above & beyond for you. The hotel is very close to all of the central historical locations & is right beside the monastery.

I got the overnight bus to Arequipa and despite arriving at 5.30am, I was allowed to check in as there was a room available. The room was clean and the bed was the most comfortable that I have stayed in during my travels in South America. The staff were really friendly and helpful. They kept my luggage while I went on a 2 day hike to Colca Canyon and helped me with a taxi to the airport. Would definitely stay again!

While the location is perfect and the charming colonial rooms are excellent, the service alone is what makes this place the only choice to stay in Arequipa. Joshua at the front desk went out of his way to ensure a comfortable trip. He coordinated our colca canyon trek and made sure we were taken care of by the operator. He gave great insights and really made us feel welcome. He takes pride in his job and it shows.

Good location, quiet yet close enough to walk to main attractions. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, we stayed there two times during our time in Arequipa. The hotel has a nice rooftop with views of the volcano. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have had in our trip, and the shower was good too

The view from the rooftop terrace (the best you can get in Arequipa) and Antonio's pisco sours (probably the best in Peru). Very good breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Do not miss sunsets on the terrace - they are amazing.

Excellent location, comfortable, clean, good value. Breakfast was nothing special but probably above average as Peruvian hotel breakfasts go. Staff didn't speak much English but were friendly and helpful.
