Doha is very different now from many years ago.
Doha is very different now from many years ago. It is now filled with beautiful buildings well lighted up at night. I enjoyed visiting their local market Souq Waqif mostly selling good quality and beautiful cloths at reasonable prices. Food is doha is considered expensive (same as europe) but quality is good. There are many taxis in Doha but we opted for a private driver who charges us qatar riyal 110 per hour. As we visited in summer, we did not go for safari as it is way too hot. We found Qatari staff at the airport immigration desks absolutely rude, slow and incompetent. They clearly hate their jobs and hate people arriving in their country. Thankfully, everyone else you meet will be an expat worker, and we found ever single one to be friendly and helpful. From our Nigerian taxi driver to the Filipino check in staff at the hotel, to the Indian restaurant workers, all fantastic. Qatar did not feel as plastic as Dubai. It is lower rise, more down to earth. Amazing metro system to get around on, and if you do most of your sightseeing during the (hotter) daytime, it is super quiet. We were scam my taxi driver name Imtiaz. Be careful when someone approach to take you to the hotel. Charged us $20 but when we checked on Uber it costed $7 for three of us wth 8 bags. In Doha use uber point to point much cheaper Not worth paying so high to see the built surrounding . It’s all the same . I enjoyed exploring the Souq Waqif, where the local culture and food really come to life. Doha is an amazing place to visit.
Doha is an amazing place to visit. From a stroll around the marina , enjoying fantastic food and a huge selection of restaurants to suit everyone, to a visit to the souk for all the local culture . Be prepared for extreme heat so pack lightly with women remembering a shoulder covering for many places . Ubers are an extremely cheap way to travel and from our experience all arrived within 1 min of securing the booking .Guest review byAnonymous

We were greeted by the kind women called ikhlaq who upgraded us to superior high floor balcony room which had spectacular views of the city. Make sure to book ahead as this hotel gets booked out. Rare to turn up and get a room available. A bit pricey but very much worth the cost. Make sure to pack swim/gym wear in your transit overnight bag as the hotels pool and gym are fantastic.
