Honestly, this is the best guest house in Rwanda. The visit there was even more exciting that national park itself, really...! Outside: Good terrace with green environment, see the pictures how they are decorated with flowers and greenery. Small well maintained garden. The rooms: Rooms are with nice interior, good design. Bathroom with hot water. Cleen. I had no problems with mosquitoes or other insects at all. Mattress are hard, which i like. My room was backside, so no noise at all. Staff: Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect communication before my visit, they help me to plan and organise any details of my visit to the park. The park is lovely and has the perfect size for people spending 1 or 2 days there. It is not yet comparable to many other safari parks in Africa, so it is hard to spot animals like lion, leopard and rhino. Numbers of these animals are however increasing, so I would love to come back in 5 years or so.
The lodge was doubled booked so after 45min car drive on bad roads from Akagera we arrived with out this info, nobody told us. The owner was not willing to help us out and compensate for their mistake, instead he tried to put us in a TENT with out any facilities or safety. This management is a 100% joker and put us in big PROBLEMS that night with out any place to sleep... I do not recommend anybody to gamble with booking this lodges!
If one wants to see the big five then go to the northern areas of the park. The southern area is very bushy and difficult to spot them. There are not enough rest spots and from top to bottom of the park takes 6 hours. A few more resting spots would be appreciated. Also more drives along the banks of the lakes. The roads were pretty poor in places.
We took our own car. Many of the roads have grass growing in the middle, so need some clearance on the side roads. One road was unpassable due to a fallen tree, but this was not pointed out to us when we discussed a route with the entrance staff. Maybe they didnt know, but it did not look freshly fallen. Forced to take another more lengthy route. Saw lots of elephants though which made up for it. Roads are well numbere with the map. Buy the one costing 2500 RWF as better detailed and has animals and birds in it to identify. \
The views from the room and meeting area are more than worth the difficulty traveling their. The food was more than expected. I had a steak, better than the steakhouses at home. The box lunches were so good we got them twice.
