Anchored in Swedish Tradition

Helsingborg is one of Sweden’s oldest cities and is strategically located on the narrowest part of the Öresund strait. The Kärnan tower was part of a Danish fortress which used to control sea traffic, and views from the top stretch to Helsingør on the other side. Today, ferries regularly make the short trip across to Denmark and it is a Helsingborg tradition to have dinner on them, an act known as ’tura’.

Although the port forms much of the attractive waterfront, Helsingborg still has several beaches. One is lined by a wooden boardwalk, and the sandy Tropical Beach is under the shade of palm trees.

Norra Hamnen has been regenerated from a dock to modern yacht marina, overlooked by apartments, restaurants and bars. One of these is in Dunkers Culture House, an arts centre designed by the son of the Sydney Opera House architect.

The town hall clocktower is one of the most prominent landmarks and Kullagatan was the country’s first pedestrian shopping street. Väla is one of Scandinavia’s largest shopping centres and north-west is Sofiero Palace whose beautiful gardens are packed with blooming rhododendrons. In 18th-century Ramlösa Park mineral water springs emerge from red rock.

The bedroom was good and I liked the fact that in the bathroom it had a good magnifying mirror so I could see well when trying to place my contact len! Minor detail I know but things like this do make a small difference. A very nice evening meal with excellent staff in place to take our orders and wait on us.

In the city center and suroundings one can see a lot of flowers and greens which are very beautiful during the springs. The Landskrona is a nice place to visit ( about 25 min driving distance )which is a historic coastal town famous for its fortifications. Sofiero is alao a nice place to go, one can see a variety of inspiring spring flowers in a cultural and historical park and visit the queen's summer residence.

We travel early April to avoid crowds and some reduced fares for hotel and travel. We took a city bus to Sofriea castle and walked back along the beach area, about 5 kms. For some reason my husbands card would not tap for fare to enter bus but driver still allowed him on. The view from the Karnan tower was awesome but the hours were incorrect on the website for its operation. Very pleasant, clean city and less busy that the larger cities like Oslo or Gotheburg. Bus system easy to navigate.

Great little town on the western coast.

Great little town on the western coast. We did the "Kattegattleden" bike trail, of which Helsingborg is the start point - although we'd be back for sure, as we didn't see nearly enough of the city! Beautiful scenery, and lovely little stopovers en route!

Helsingborg is one of our favourite cities in Sweden (we lived there for several years). There is plenty to do in the city, and a thriving food scene. It is a great base for exploring the local area and has frequent ferry connections over to Denmark.

Beautiful city with great diverse architecture. Beautiful and long beach with sand. Many international restaurants. Trips to Denmark from the marina. Nice sights to visit nearby - Mölle. Good spots for panoramic view of the city - Kärnan.

A very nice hotel in the beautiful city of Helsingborg. The room was spacious, very comfortable, and warm, with a good view. The hotel is on the outskirts of the city, but only a 10-minute taxi ride from the town hall. The breakfast buffet was good. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. Highly recommended!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, from the reception staff to the manager to the housekeeping. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Extra bonus for coffee station in the room. Parking was expensive but very well organized and convenient. Dog friendly! Very clean. Comfortable linens.

Amazing location, close to the centre, main stations and we can walk everywhere. The staff was fantastic, made us very comfortable and gave us a lot of tips about the city and neighbours. The room has enough space for 2, the shower is comfortable and clean.
