Our stay at the Highbrook motel was great! Fun place to explore.. so many choices where you can find hiking trails for both experienced, and non experienced!! Beautiful area, for the most part we encountered very nice people. Do not recommend Acadia Ocean view motel at all, moldy smell in office as well as room. People running the place were very rude.
If you are active you will love bar harbor. The hiking and biking can be as strenuous or easy as you like. The views from in the park and the surrounding area make anyone appear to be a master photogragher! My wife and I hve returned 5 times (I am in my sixties) and I generally do not like to repeat vacations. Although I have not had a problem with crowds on the trails or in the many restaurants in town I have heard from a good friend that July was a bit overwhelming with crowds. We visited this last time in September.
I stayed for 2 nights 3 days, packed a lot in to my trip. The highlights were the food in Bar Harbor (blueberry pie at stadium 11/10), walking the shore path, and seeing Acadia National Park. Very dog friendly town, I was able to take my small dog almost everywhere. Def recommend getting up early to catch a sunrise! Don't forget to purchase your park pass and a permit if you plan to go up Cadillac Mountain. Great destination, Awesome shopping! (literally some of the best shopping!) Locals were very friendly.
Bar Harbor and Acadia are a MUST SEE experience. It is beautiful and there is literally something there in the area for everyone whether it be oceans/beaches, mountains and wildlife, fishing, whales, seafood, steaks, or other entertainment. In addition to visiting Acadia by vehicle, we also rented an e-bike and rode the carriage roads which we highly recommend. Most everything in Bar Harbor is within walking distance but we also recommend checking out other parts of Mount Desert Island as well.
Bar Harbor is a great little town. Lots to do in the town with plenty of shops and a great selection of restaurants. BE PREPARED RO SPEND MONEY. Cheaper options are available, but it's a long drive. Proximity to Acadia is very nice if you are outdoorsy. I had a great time with my boys, but it was very, very expensive.
Bar Harbor is a beautiful place I enjoyed walking the trails on desert island and sitting on the board walk and sampling the seafood at lobster shak. However it is not easy to get around bar harbor without your own transportation, whale watching is great fun Bar harbor is beautiful but a bit costly
