Great location with several intersting guests. The toom we stayed in was very roomy and clean. We slept very soundly on a quite comfortable bed. The views from the lodge of the mountains and the Susitna River Valley is what makes this place a great stopping point half way across the Denali Highway. After reading other reviews I realized that many ignorant people come to Alaska. The reason you travel on the Denali Highway is to see what remote Alaska is like using roads that take you to remote, off the grid places. In fact, I was actually shocked to see any paved roadway and how great the condition of the graveled road was. If you are looking for a comfy ride around town don't take a remote road in Alaska. Stay in Achorage and pretend you saw the real Alaska. Your fellow ignorant friends won't know the difference. As for hunting, don't listen to the typical Brit, they lost there minds decades ago. The greatest generation of Brits are also dying out. We know, we lived in England during the 70s and 80s and have gone back a few times since. We still love the Highlands of Scotland though. They still hunt and fish as folks here in Alaska do. Final note, the staff at the Alpine Creek Lodge is very friendly and appear to be authenic Alaskans.

It is a little bit on the edge of nowhere and buy a railroad labor yard but there are activities and hiking near by. Photographed the aurora here. While there are some lights close by there are dark places for viewing.
