We went to Cripple Creek for the Ice Festival. Cripple Creek is a cute little gambling town full of casinos. Every Casino before this that I had been in had great food at a great price. Cripple Creek not so much, the food was average at best and a little over priced. We wanted to have breakfast some place close to the Ice Festival. We decided on The Creek, big mistake people were rude and food was lousy avoid this place. Plenty other places to eat at in the area. I highly recommend attending the Cripple Creek Ice Festival, when your ready to relax go to Pearl's Place for a message.
Cripple Creek is a unique mixture of Colorado's history, active mining, gambling, and of course natural abundance. It is a pretty small town perched at high elevation. I enjoy the vacation aura sans the bustle but l also visited in January mid week 😂.
If you like old town mining this is the one! Very friendly people with tons of great places to visit. Jail museum was fun. If you’re bringing family, be careful because most restaurants in the casino is over 21+ age to eat. They won’t allow any kids. Other than that, it was such an adventure and you’ll get to see donkey just walking the street!
We enjoyed meals at the Creek and Gold Camp Cafe. Both served delicious and large portions for the price. The Molly Kathleen mine tour was outstanding and our 9 year old granddaughter throughly enjoyed it especially the trip in and out in the man cage. She also loved petting the wild donkeys. We were sorry that we hadn't planned ahead to spend more time exploring the area.
It was very interesting to learn all about the mining history of Cripple Creek; and taking the little train ride into the countryside was excellent to actually see some of the mining sites. The train store had more train paraphernalia than you could ever imagine. The trading shop on site was also good. All people here were helpful and very nice. Johnny Nolon's restaurant, as limited as the selection was, was quite good, and Trevor treated us with respect and courtesy. Maggie's Restaurant was excellent, maybe the best fish and chips we have had. We are sorry we didn't have time to tour the Mollie Kathleen Mine, maybe next time. Very easy to navigate around the town.
The town was fun, alot of gambling games to choose from and the other hotels and casinos were clean and all the staff was very respectful. I wished there was a guide a hotel can give you when you arrive, just a flyer of some sort to show you places to dine and places to go. we googled most of it.
