Provincetown has much to offer, but I was there for a wedding and was able to stay only one night. I would recommend a longer stay for most travelers, perhaps 2 or 3 nights, so that they could enjoy the quaint nature of the town, walk the beaches, shop the galleries, etc.
Friendly people, great shops/restaurants and gorgeous water views/beaches! The Pedicab rides are a fun way to get around town! We enjoyed charred octopus at Strangers and Saints with the best margaritas ever, made by Mikey! We like to walk the trails and Beech Forest was our favorite by far! But don't forget to go to The Breakwater by the Provincetown Inn and walk out into the middle for spectacular views!
Really fun place to visit with lots to do (or not do!) great restaurants, small shops of all types, art galleries, really warm and accepting LGBTQ+ community, awesome beaches, entertainment (Anita Cocktails Drag show at the Post Office Cafe was a HOWL !!!) some really entertaining street performers and there's too much more to list, the locals are really laid back, understanding and kind helpful people!
There is no place quite like Provincetown. The natural beauty. The friendliness of the people. The density and variety of events, galleries, shops, and restaurants. The beach. And the ocean views. All laced with funkiness and lack of pretense. Provincetown welcomes all, and the diversity you'll discover there is astounding. The Cape requires special care to preserve it, and the whole town cooperates in environmental stewardship. The pace in Provincetown can be as fast or slow as you want, from raucous dance clubs and exuberant bar scenes to sedate gardens and quaint galleries off the beaten track. The convenient ferry from Boston docks adjacent to the middle of town making it easy to find your way to your guest house or inn. Yes, there are some expensive ways to spend your money, but reasonably-priced options for tourists make Provincetown a delightful place to visit. It is well worth traveling the short distance to the tip of Cape Cod, a vacation waiting to happen for the fun-loving traveler.
I've been going to Provincetown on a semi regular basis since the 1980s. It has not changed substantially over 40 years, though the visitors have a bit, as have the prices. Back in the day, it was much more affordable, but now caters more to the families and people coming from the greater Boston area and New England. It used to cater to hard core New Yorkers and Performers who vie to get a 'gig' there to get out of the city for a week or two...or if they were lucky...for the entire summer season. Sadly, I talked to several long time Gallery Owners, they can't find young Artists to help them run their Galleries in the summer.....due to the high cost of finding a place to stay in Provincetown for the summer. The City of Provincetown needs to work on a solution to this problem and build low cost housing, maybe out by Race Point to accommodate this need. The Hotels and Restaurants are benefiting from some kind of 'Cultural Exchange Government Program and they have people coming in for the season from Bulgaria and Islands to help them.....some kind of similar program needs to be set up for the Galleries in P Town....which are essential to P Town's artistic heritage and its importance as a 'Mecca' for artists! Please visit the Galleries and if you see something you like BUY IT and support these talented local artists!!!
Provincetown is always a favorite place to visit, but the prices have gone up! Overall, you can have a blast just for a weekend (get there Friday -- leave Sunday). There is always a happy hour somewhere, and there is enough to do for everyone (rain or shine -- they still party pretty well). Plan ahead, get some drinks to bring with you, some snacks, fruit, etc... so you don't have to go to too many restaurants. Even when you book a bit far away from the center of the town (where all the bars, restaurants, shows, shops are) you can still walk or a short bike ride gets you there. Parking is an issue in ptown! if you don't have parking at your place of stay, they have overnight parking available (expensive). Take the ferry boat from Boston! Book with enough time in advance (summers are busy there) -- Enjoy!
Provincetown
This was our first time in Provincetown and it was a nice and happy atmosphere. The House/Inn is charming and historic. Russ made it easy to find by sending us directions to the parking and he was welcoming. The staff also tried to accomodate us. We are not sure how it is during the summer, but November was slow in Provincetown and during Covid times, this is a great destination. We also liked the restaurant we ate at. Best Fish and chips and lobster rolls we've had.
Provincetown
This hotel was the highlight of our trip to P Town and for those who have been there before know what it means, given that P Town has so so much to offer. From the fresh and new design, calm sandy tones, fire pits, breathtaking views, comfortable bed, amazing shower, delicious breakfast and coffee/water on tap all made for an unforgettable experience. Already planning to come back! (The pictures don’t do this place justice)
