A very interesting, vibrant city to "explore"! Great for walking, whether the residential streets - some very lovely homes close to downtown, as well as walking the shopping streets of downtown.
What a great food scene. Anything on offer, and fresh! The neighbouring areas for touring to see the fresh fruit and veg,, wine, cheese....this area is well worth the visit. Traverse makes a great base from which to explore.
Lots of things to do in town - on the water, beside the water, hiking, ....I was too late to partake of the Film Festival, but obviously a film fanciers town (the library has the most extensive video collection in it's own large room - wow).
Upon entry into town, the switch from pastoral nature scenes, to bustling, traffic and energy was a bit of culture shock. The two sides of the town depending upon what you prefer.
Outside of town - an absolute MUST SEE is the Big Bear Sand Dunes Park. The peninsula around Leland (the Fishing Village) is also worthy of note. I would have liked to visit Interlochen, but time constraints. Another time?
