Located on the beachfront, the upmarket A Villa de Mer Guest house is located in Port Alfred and 10 minutes' walk from the Kowie River mouth. It offers a garden and outdoor pool. Spacious! Clean! The staff do not hesitate when you ask for anything. Lounges, a beautiful pool area with braai facilities for when the wind makes the beach unpleasant and a large balcony with sea views. One cannot ask for more when on holiday. A different breakfast menu every morning. Bliss!!
Located in Port Alfred and with Heritage Shopping Mall reachable within an 18-minute walk, Rafiki Inn has an outdoor swimming pool, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a garden. The hosts were very warm, friendly and accommodating. The unit is lovely and set in a quaint garden. We especially enjoyed sitting in the area facing the canal (in front of the host's house) and were even invited to sit on the host's boat, moored on their jetty - it was a beautiful and serene environment to de-stress in. Highly recommended - sadly we stayed only one night.

Quaint little seaside resort on the so-called sunshine coast. Pristine beaches stretching for many kilometres. Pineapple country inland. 50km drive to the university town of Grahamstown, but note that the roads are generally in poor condition. The locals avoid spending much time on these potholed roads by driving as quickly as conditions will allow. Bathhurst has the oldest active pub in the country and a farmers market on Sunday. Port Alfred has all the usual shopping opportunities one is accustomed to.
Port Alfred is great for swimming at Kelly's Beach, for a drink or pizza at the pier and for finding fun eateries around the river area. It's best to drive from town to the beach, and great to stroll around the river eateries and shops. Fun activities include taking a boat up the long and winding river, and actually everywhere around the coast is beautiful. The wildlife around the area is bound to be fascinating, as in most reserves around South Africa, and the weather is delightful if you keep your eye on the wind and the tides. Fishermen will enjoy both the river and the sea.
Port Alfred still has an old world charm. There is so much to do in the area and the beaches are beautiful. Even during the busiest time of the year it is relatively quite compared to some of the other coastal spots in South Africa.
Beautiful town. My only disappointment was the lack of restaurants. Being a coastal town I expected to be spoilt for choice when it comes to seafood. This was not so. There are far too few restaurants and the restaurants that are there do not do seafood.
I have stayed in port Alfred on many occasion in the past 20 yrs. It is half way between PortSt Johns and George . think Prices have got bit over rated. But super beaches. Good restaurants. Very good location markings. Super Spur Restaurant.
Port Alfred is a lovely town - small and friendly, with a variety of day trips around the surrounding areas, fun to explore art and craft shops, restaurants and coffee shops - just a really great holiday get-away.

Linda was a great host! I cannot stress that enough. The house is warm and welcoming, the staff is quick to respond, her daughter was helpful, the rooms are fully equipped, aircon works perfectly, the TV works perfectly, I would definitely come back and back again. A walk away from the beach, her breakfast sorts out any hangover haha, and the omelette on Sunday was the greatest :) fantastic place to stay at. From Me, Faith, Julia, Ntombi, Lebo, Katlego, Hloni and Hughnesse, we loved it!

Thank you so much to Isabeau, Bets and staff. We felt so taken care of. Thank you for your recommendations for restaurants to hikes, swimming beaches and rivers. We are so grateful for Isabeau's generosity with our complex travel requirements and for the bonus excursion. The Beach Hotel is a real Port Alfred gem. Though we would not have discovered port Alfred but for a wedding, our enchanting time there will always be there for us.

The Hotel is new and modern and it felt like real value for money. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food at The Highlander pub (supper) and the breakfast at Paper Nautilus restaurant were superb! I Cannot fault the quality of the meals. the hotel is situated next to the Golf course, which is also very convenient. It was very pleasant stay! Next time I will be sure to make use of the Camelot Spa offering as well.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Lookout Guesthouse. The room was light and spacious. The breakfast was excellent and Louise the owner was helpful and informative. There was a great attention to detail, including fresh flowers with your breakfast, real coffee in the room and good biscuits, including multi electrical sockets to use. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough and would give it 11/10.

Incredible view, great location and a beautiful guest room with everything you need. The owners are very friendly and the room is comfortable and beautifully put together. They are situated just outside the main town and marina and provide a perfect place from which to explore Port Alfred. Lots of nice little touches that make you feel welcome and they stay special. I would definitely come back

The rooms were stunning, with old style decor. The staff were very friendly, advising on things to do whilst we were in town. They were quick to the rescue when I got stung by a jelly fish. The place was safe and secure, has a restuarant and bar which was a pleasant surprise. I recommend you come stay here when next in Port Alfred.

We felt "like home" because of Marianne und Robs warm and friendly manner. The view was wonderful, breakfast great and we really enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately we didn't have that much time. Port Alfred is a very nice place. Opposite is a great restaurant/pub named "Links" for dinner and drinks.

From the minute we walked into the property, we felt at home, comfortable and were welcomed by hospitality and a beautiful establishment. The location is perfect and the best in Port Alfred. The only thing better than the location is the value for money. We look forward to returning to 3040 on Freshwater!

For us the biggest need was easy access to the faculty where a family member is being treated and Fairlie House was ideal. Other travellers without independent transport might find it a bit far from shops and beaches.

The suite was really large and contained every facility we needed for our stay. A decanter of sherry was available for our consumption. The suite contained a minibar and all items in there were complimentary- the red and white wine (which also happened to be their house wine in the restaurant - and also complimentary) was of excellent standard. The view from our suite was outstanding, looking over both the game reserve and the beach & ocean. Game safaris were included in the cost of the all-inclusive package, and though it isn't a huge reserve there were plenty of animals to see (antelope, giraffe, wildebeest, rhino etc) and the guides were very knowledgeable and keen to impart their knowledge. All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Food in the restaurant was outstanding, well balanced and well presented.
