Find the country houses that appeal to you the most
Looking for a country house?
The top choice for people wanting to get away from noise and fast-paced city life. Country houses are private homes located in the peaceful countryside, with communal facilities and meals available. Activities to unwind can be included too, like trekking, bird watching, and cycling.
The hotel aims for the country house vibe and mostly succeeds. Perhaps trying just a bit too hard. Very rural and totally quiet, a delight of birdsong. Extensive grounds to explore. We didn't use the spa but others recommended it. Friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable bed. Exceptional dinner but there is no option to the 3-course fixed price menu. Well located for RHS Rosemoor, the coast (fabulour fish at the Sea Gate pub in Appledore) and Exmoor.
Lovely peaceful location surrounded by open countryside. Excellent facilities with free use of the pool and gym. Bedroom was spacious and well laid out and immaculately clean. Restaurant onsite was worth a visit, could not fault the food, service or staff.
Nice breakfast, very friendly staff, made to feel at home, good location - ideal for North Devon countryside and coast, the road was very quiet. Very modern bathroom. The complimentary drink in the room was a nice touch.
Breakfast had a good choice of options that seemed to cater for all tastes. Cooked option very nice indeed! Rooms comfortable and clean with views of grounds and surrounding countryside. Peaceful and relaxing - only sounds of sheep and birds.
A good mixture of preserving a country house of over 150 years old ,and a delightful golf clubhouse.
The clubhouse also supported a fine swimming pool/Sauna/jacuzzi/gym etc.
These facilities were all free to hotel residents.
The golf was only £15.00 a round to residents and easy to book.
The food was excellent.
Set in a peaceful Devon countryside.
Great for a chilled break or holiday.
