I have been to Nepal several times but it was my first time at Thagu Chhen. It has exceeding my expectations and provides an excellent value. Nestled within beautifully landscaped grounds, Shambaling Hotel is a charming refurbished house from the 70s. We were very impressed by the kindness of the staff. They were always willing to help e.g. carrying the luggage, booking taxis and offering instructions and in room service. The hotel was a calm oasis around the chaotic city. The food was of high quality and the room service offered traditional dishes that were well made and comparably affordable. In general, the hotel has has a character and it is not commercialized.

This was the third time I have stayed in this property. It feels like you are in your own home. Staffs are very friendly, accommodating, caring and courteous. Let me give you an example of its caring staff. “For the breakfast, they serve you with two slices of toasts. Since I was cutting down carbs, I asked the lady at front desk to send me only one slice of toast because I didn’t want to waste food. After few days, she brought me two slices of toasts and told me that the size of the bread on that particular day was kind of smaller, and she thought one smaller piece wouldn’t be enough. That just brought a big smile in my face.” Even the dog at the property is so kind, it likes to welcome all the guests each time they arrive. I will definitely come back here next time I visit Nepal.

The location is very convenient not far from the main attractions, yet peaceful and quiet, making it perfect for relaxation. Highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting the area!

Location is perfect in the middle of Thamel and close to some attractions to do even by foot. Room is spacious. Bed was comfy and lockers were wide. Staff were so nice and helpful. Free Breakfast was the best part of the stay (nice variety of a menu à la carte). I also liked the tour guide services they offer for extra fees.
