We felt like we were going back in time. The property is very old, but still very well maintained with everything we needed. The hospitality our host provided was warm and generous. We couldn’t communicate well but had a laugh using Google translate. Our host also dried our washing for us. The breakfast was delicious. Crepes, cheese, ham, fresh fruit, bread and very good coffee. Our host also personally took us to the castle when it was closed and got the girls to open it up early for us. She also organised a place for us to eat within walking distance.

I think this is the perfect place to stay and travel around the central part of Portugal, visiting small towns and castles. I am talking about Penedono, Meda, Trancoso, Pinchel, Almeida and many other places of interest. This place, Casas do Juizo, is very clean and well maintained. The room is modern in within "medieval" walls and has everything you need for living and cooking. The host, Monica, is very nice and friendly, she speaks very good English and we had no problems communicating. Was offered a very tasty welcome drink and some Easter bread and cheese during our stay, this was Easter time. The village itself is a very calm and quiet place to relax. I would like to recommend Casas do Juizo for all local travelers and foreigners traveling in Portugal.

We arrived late in the evening and were warmly greeted by our great host Marisa with a local pastry made from almond flour(?) and offer of coffee and tea. In the morning we had a copious breakfast in the spacious shared kitchen; but we were the only guests so we had the whole undivided attention of Marisa. She served us home made rolls, fresh cheese, jams and organic produce from her farm which tasted excellent. She also gave us a lovely tour of her cheese factory for which her property was named for. On her advice we toured the castle of Marialva where we met a Spanish couple who in turn urged us to go visit the archeological engraving at the Foz Coa Archeological Park. The visit to the Penascosa site under the guidance of Mr. Marco Feirrera (Sorry if I misspell the name) was exceptionally educational and entertaining; not to be missed if you are in the area or even well worth a detour to visit one of the three sites of the park.
