We had a very spacious room with a beautiful ocean view. We especially enjoyed the complimentary beverage service. The staff was very helpful. Food was very good, but did not offer much in variety if staying multiple days. It's a little out of the way, but there is shuttle service available to Toba Station if you wish to venture off and do some sightseeing. Just be sure to leave and return between the shuttle service hours.

Ise has 2 of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan, a recreated historical shopping street, Okage-Yokocho, and an original old warehouse neighborhood, Kawasaki-cho. The bus system makes it easy to travel around the city. There are also many rental e-bike stations around the city. Many shops and hotels around the main tourist areas speak English if needed, and I have found the public-facing staff to be very friendly in general.

Shima is more rural Japan, and there is many nice scenerie.. There is even very nice surf beach (Kou Shirahama), where i have visited many times. Best in summer/autumn for surfing, but beatiful all year round.. You can rent boards for example from Le Ba Surf. Pearl road is good to drive with scenic spots and Anori and Daio has few lighthouses with stunning views. Also if you like pearls, there is a lot of pearl industey around and you can buy pearl jewelries etc. You absolutely need a car to get around properly, it is rural, and access to most places is just by car.

Tsu is actually my 2nd least favourite city in Japan.

Tsu is actually my 2nd least favourite city in Japan. I was only staying there because it was the only place I could get a hotel for my trip in the Ise area. Despite not being a huge city, it is quite unfriendly to pedestrians and there's honestly not too much to enjoy in the city as a tourist. The busses do work really well and are unlikely to get stuck in traffic because of how unnecessarily wide (4 lanes) the main road is. Trains in Mie in general are a little difficult to understand as a tourist (even as one that speaks and reads Japanese quite well) so you need to be careful when relying on Google Maps and you're probably best off just going to a MAIN station (like Tsu Station) and making your decision when you get there. The Yuki Shrine that I went to years ago was nice and there's a decent art museum if you like that kind of thing, but neither of these things are terribly unique. I have however had the best burger of my life in this city (at a place called Both Rich) and the hotels I have stayed in this city have been good and good value for money too.

Our ryokan was fabulous, and Toba offers many opportunities for day trips including to nearby islands, towns, and visiting the Ama women deep sea divers and experiencing a litte of their traditional cultural heritage. We stayed 4 nights and could have easily stayed longer. The place is slow, sea food so fresh, and the people extremely friendly.

Suzuka is a little bit off the normal tourist route. It's nice to walk around neighborhoods and rice fields, have a night at the Aeon mall shopping, and enjoy a city amongst real Japanese families. Transportation around the city is easy to navigate with bus and trains.

The attractions are walkable and the paths/streets are interesting. The relationship of the city with water is fascinating - flood control, water harnessing, water transport - and can be seen on the various infrastructure and parks. I enjoyed visiting and checking out Rokkaen and Kyuka Park.

Nice park with a historical castle, with impressive stone walls raising from the moat, and good views of the town. Ninja museums and dojos were exciting, and the museum and monuments of the poet Basho very interesting. A trip to the near-by village of Tsukigase was pleasant as it happened to be the plum blossoming time and the village is famous for beautiful plum trees and the "ume matsuri".

We didn’t have time to explore Kameyama as we were involved in support races at Suzuka , but we noticed a bakery nearby, a grocery store next door and many historical sites and shrines worth a visit. We also dropped by Nakaya toys!!! It is an amazing toy shop with toys from the 80s through current day . Amoce’ italian restaurant was fantastic, a 5 minute drive away- their pizza Bismarck was better than the ones we tried in Milan! The chef was trained in Italy- Amoce is a must visit if you’re ever in Kameyama.

Compared to bigger cities in Japan, Ise is very car-oriented and the trains and buses are rather infrequent. So knowing when the buses are coming and also planning to arrive early so you don't have to wait for multiple cycles of the bus is helpful. Most people who visit Ise are Japanese as it's a place with significance to Shinto, the native religion of Japan. I'm not Japanese but I have studied Japanese and can speak, understand, and read Japanese okay, but if I couldn't I would've had a lot of trouble getting around as there's very little English written. Otherwise, I felt that the town was very nice, I walked along the beach on the coast with the Married Rocks, and it was a beautiful view.

It was Ocean`s Day long weekend, granted it was still rainy season, but there seemed to be nobody in town. I had the swimming beach to myself (but the showers had already closed by 5 PM) There seemed to be no tourists or tourist shops nearby. It felt like a ghost town with all the derelict hotels. I wish it had more of a beach resort vibe with little shops nearby. The seafood was excellent at our hotel. (Shima = fishing town, not so much a resort town). If the sky were clear, I bet you could see the stars well from Shima.
