We loved everything: the peaceful location, the wildlife/nature sounds, the natural setting, the comfortable tent with its own washroom. Samitha and Damith were fantastic hosts who warmly greeted us, gave us a serene boat trip along the river, cooked delicious vegan food, arranged a fantastic safari for us and even gave us an early-morning wake-up call with freshly made tea and ginger biscuits along with a packed breakfast for the safari. We really enjoyed talking with them. All was perfect and I wish we'd had longer in Sri Lanka so we could've stayed 2 nights!

The staff were fantastic and always ready to help answer any questions including “what bird is that” x 20. The staff were patient and knowledgeable and they made my experience amazing!!

The surroundings of the camp are just stunning. The gardeners Indika, Upalai and Kumara do a very good job. The area is very quiet and full of birdlife an other animals. Our bushwalks with Nuwan and Dimuth were great, although we could‘nt find any elephants. Kumara led us to a beautiful waterfall where we had e refreshing bath. The service and food cooked by Upalai and Rajitha was excellent. Thanks a lot to all staff - we will come back one day 👋🏼🙏🏻

The units will provide guests with a desk and a kettle. Amazing hotel, amazing safari! The rooms were gorgeous and such good value for money. I highly recommend booking the safari through this hotel, we had an incredible experience. Thanks to our tour guide, Lasa, we saw so many elephants and other animals and he was extremely informative and made the experience even more interesting. Thank you so much!

The on-site Rose Restaurant serves Western, Chinese and Sri Lankan food. This hotel stay was AMAZING! A little oasis during our safari trips in Udawalawe! The pool was fantastic break from the mid day heat, the restaurant had delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The room was LOVELY; bed was comfortable, and outdoor concept for the bathroom/shower, and the air con could be as cold as you wanted it! Monkeys live on or near the grounds so it was fun to watch them swing through the trees. Staff was so nice and accommodating! Would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay during your safari!

International and traditional Sri Lankan dishes are served by the chef on demand, at the main restaurant. Athgira River Camping offers a great outdoor dining experience as well as a barbecue dinner and cooking demonstrations. Real wild cocktails and a nice wine selection are available as well. We stayed in a river view tent and the view from balcony was great. The food was very good with a good range of choice Staff very friendly

Barbecue dinner is provided around a campfire. Free WiFi is available in the public areas of the property. We had the best two night stay here with Solomon and the boys, the staff could not have been more attentive. They organised lunch for us on our arrival which was above and beyond what we expected. The gentleman with the glasses who delivered our induction (apologies I cannot remember his name), was so friendly and welcoming, he (and the rest of the team) went above and beyond to make sure this experience was unforgettable! The food was amazing both nights, and catered to dietary requirements. We ate outside under the stars both nights which was lovely. The tent itself was perfect for our needs, the bed was comfortable and we slept very well both nights. You could hear nature which was wonderful. Solomon is a very knowledgeable and interesting man, he provided great insight into the nature around the camp very locally and also in the safari park. We booked our safari through Big Game Camp and had Solomon as our guide which we could not recommend more, he was quick at pointing out a myriad of animals, whilst also being aware that the park is a safari not a zoo so you are not guaranteed to see anything, despite this we saw many elephants, different species of birds, mongoose etc. We would recommend this to anyone travelling to Sri Lanka!!
