Company info

Discovering Hôtel Verhaegen in 2004 we immediately decided to restore it to a new life. The original architecture of the house was exceptionally well preserved, and all the beautiful artwork ( panelling, Chinese wallpaper, canvases by P.N. van Reysschoot, elaborate ceilings) was in very good condition. During the renovation we took special care not to loose all the charming authentic details, and considered the entire house as a precious antique, just a much as for a period cabinet or a master painting. It is our firm conviction that most renovations are much too forceful and destroy more than restore. We pride ourselves on the fact that the only footprint we left is that the house is loved and be taken care of for a few decades more. All our alterations can be removed without any damage, and all the architectural antiques have remained untouched. No dismantling and repairing here. If it is not broken do not fix it. Even for repairs, most often it is more wise to respect the age of a patina, a wooden floor, a broken blue stone sill. Thus we did not redo the original gold of the ceilings and panelling, they are just fabulous.

Property info

The B&B is a well-known monument that dates back to the 18th century and was owned by the same family for over a 150 years. Now it's owned by two interior designers and is one of the most beautiful B&B's in Europe.

Neighborhood info

Hôtel Verhaegen is situated in a residential area, just next to the "Quartier Latin" of Ghent. The surroundings of the LUCA Art school and the numerous antique and specialty shops, give a special flair to this part of town. Furthermore we are only a few steps away from the canals and the historic old town. For business people there is an easy access and get away, avoiding you to loose time in the traffic. Although we are in the historic city center, at walking distance from the old town with its university buildings, we are lucky to have easy access to the city orbital, allowing us to leave the town in a few minutes. Finally for those enjoying shopping, we have all the nicest boutiques at walking distance. Ghent is renowned for its numerous multi brand boutiques, combining fashion, elegance and affordability. In summer our garden is a quiet haven away from the crowd and heat of the city centre.
