FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernizing at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and has fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centers and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle, head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

    Lovely city - good people.

Lovely city - good people. Excellent public transport like the metro which is very easy to use , even for people who do not understand or speak a word of Chinese. The signages are superb and make it very easy for travel. Taxis are plenty and not very expensive. There is lot of sightseeing - beautiful places like the bund, the superb markets, modern shopping malls with the biggest brands. The acrobatics show is a must see ! So is the Jade Buddha temple and various other attractions.

Shanghai is a unique city when compared to other metropolis.

Shanghai is a unique city when compared to other metropolis. Its air, due to the policies on electric vehicles is today always very clean. the city is generally always clean and well groomed, with lovely gardens just about anywhere. people are extremely polite and helpful and the fact that most people does not still speak english does not appear to be an obstacle. Any foreign visitor can go wherever he feels like at any time, feeling safe and looked after. You can find all types of food and restaurants. Should you prefer international food, there are amazing options around the corner. Undoubtedly the Top megacity in the World to visit, stay and possibly also to live.

The main highlights like The Bund area and Shopping strip are very nice. Old town and water town tours were fantastic. Underground copy market was a little underwhelming with Pushy people. Walking around Shanghai feels very safe. The people are friendly and helpful. Its surprisingly clean considering its population. A nighttime visit to the observation deck at Shanghai tower is a must !!

We had only a 12 hour layover so didn't see much of Shanghai. Airport is huge but beautiful and worked extremely well. Roads seemed excellent and flowed fairly well, everything seemed very clean. Only small downside was getting ripped off by taxi driver who charged 270 Yuan, which turned out to be AU$58, for very short ride. We were in need and too tired to think about it at the time.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The house cleaning service was the best I’ve ever had in a hotel. The laundry service was very good. Concierge helped me with deliveries to my hotel room. The room itself is spacious, luxurious and fairly priced. The hotel is in a great location in downtown central Shanghai, close to many bars, restaurants and shops by walking distance. There is an excellent gym you can use.

The Eton Hotel is great value for money. Located in Pudong, a 20-30 minute walk from the Shanghai Pearl Oriental tower, and a ten minute walk from a pier to the green bund. The room had a spectacular view, with a fabulous bathtub and decent in-roon amenities. Concierge was lovely and helped out with practicalities. Cleaning was comprehensive and daily.

This hotel is a perfect combination of price, location, helpful staff and atmosphere. However, the overall management of the facilities and breakfast could be better. Overall I would not say it is a 5 star hotel, but if I come to Shanghai again, I will stay at the Metropolo for the reasons above.
