Apokoronas is one of the most historic and beautiful areas of Crete, a landscape of wild mountains and fertile valleys. It was the place where emperors and lords of the Byzantine Empire would reside to enjoy the wealth and beauty of the land. The local architectural tradition developed from the 16th century onwards, has been influenced by Venetians. Walks around the neighborhood, the Venetian wells, the Roman cemetery and the church of Agios Pavlos are highly recommended.
