Bjørn bought the property from Sigrid Veum (his mother) in 2013. Renovations were started in 2014 to the cabin behind the main house (called "Eldhuset") which was used previously as storage and to house workers but had no modern conveniences. Eldhuset was originally built in 1509, it was part of a neighboring farm and brought to its current location in the 1920's by Bjørn's grandfather who used it to keep a fire going for the property and also to store food in the cellar. As the building improved it was decided it would be wonderful to share this unique building and the surrounding farm with guests who we believe will enjoy the cozy, peaceful feeling that really emanates from its walls. There is a gorgeous view from the table in the back of the fields and mountain, horses are sometimes grazing in the field directly behind the house and we have other pets (dogs, cats & goats) along with wild fox, deer, moose and grouse on this working farm. Robin is a native of Philadelphia, PA, USA, who met Bjørn when he lived in the USA long ago. After years of no contact, Bjørn decided to contact Robin and it was the beginning of a romance which started a happy revolution in their lives. Bjørn and Robin were married in December 2013, lived in Stavanger until they moved to the farm, "Skrede Gard" in March 2015 and Robin assumed duties of managing the property which now includes Eldhuset (this cabin), a campgrounds for tents and camping vehicles including 8 cabins and 2 suspended tents, and a café, Roan Kroa, on the main road with a 4-room motel and apartment in the building next door. Along with their daughter, Anna-Sigrid, his son Kristopher, their 2 large dogs, 2 cats, 4 horses and 7 (soon to be more!) goats, life is full and very good at Skrede Gard!

Activities include: hiking, canoeing, fishing, biking, sightseeing, swimming, cross-country skiing is nearby and downhill skiing is a short distance. Pick mushrooms or berries seasonally. Visit some of the local attractions like the mines at Åmdals verk, the Viking church near Dalen, the runestone in Fyresdal, even a local metalworker who still works in the old ways. Cozy cafes and quaint shops in Fyresdal, Dalen, Kviteseid, are all within a 30 minute drive. Cross-country skiing when available on our property or in Veum (5km). Skiing in Vrådal and Hallbjønnsekken are a short drive away.
