United KingdomHost was exceptional. Extremely welcoming and accommodating. Even found room for us to keep our motorbikes over night. There was 6 of us in 2 rooms, the room sizes were great especially with motorcycle gear and that in the room we didn't feel we would struggle for space.
Breakfast was good and with constant flow of coffee even though coffee machine was broken.
Location is great.

CanadaThe location is the best in the city - in a stunningly beautiful Grote Markt. Overnight parking in the Markt is possible for free until 8 AM and thereafter one can pay to remain. As we were there for only a single night, this was a good option for us. We had notified the hotel of a very late arrival and although the front desk was not staffed, room cards and a written welcome were on the counter, which was very useful. The breakfast is excellent. This place is fantastic, just book it.

Its a pilgrimage every soldier should make to remind them of the real cost of war. If you want to make the wreath laying ceremony get there at least 30 minutes before the bugle call or you will find yourself outside on the street and not in a good position to see the event.

Leave a Tip? Go. Not just for 'The Last Post', although if you're there at 8PM any evening, you owe it to yourself and the thousands of names carved into the Gate to attend, but also for the opportunity to stand a remember those thousands of young men who never had the chance to go home.

Attend the Last Post, it is incredibly poignant and moving as a reminder of the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives in WW1 - and the continuing respect shown by the Last Post Association and buglers from the Ypres fire service desrerves our continuing support.

Be sure to witness the WWI ceremony nightly at 8:00 (20:00) at the Menin Gate! Arrive early to get a good place to stand. It is commendable that the people of Ypres/Leper have made good on their promise to always remember the soldiers who died in that war. It was warming to see how school children are involved.

Location is ideal for seeing Ypres and the Menin Gate ,we were a party of 12 and all accomodated at the hotel, Breakfast was great with a choice of hot or cold . Rooms were well equipped and Air con was a bonus during the hot spell when we visited

A beautiful apartment with private parking.
Very comfortable and modern and only a short walk from the Menin Gate. The host, Mark, was very welcoming.
A delicious and ample breakfast was delivered to the room daily. This included perfectly boiled eggs from the lovely chickens in the garden.
If we visit Ypres in the future, we will definitely stay here again.

This is a first rate spacious apartment, steps away from the main square of Ypres and close to the Menin Gate. The number 90 bus that takes you to and from the station, as well as to the Passchendaele museum, stops in the square near the guesthouse.
The guesthouse itself is clean and really comfortable with all the amenities you need for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The Hotel is close to the centre of Ypres & about a 5 min walk from the Menin Gate. The decore of the Breakfast dining room was impressive & breakfast was included in the room cost. The receptionist was friendly & willingly assisted with helping us to obtain a free 30 minute parking ticket from a machine so that we could park right outside the hotel entrance.

Main Street is an excellent example of how a small upmarket hotel should operate. Individual care, very friendly, and nothing is any trouble. I would have no hesitation in telling friends to use this hotel on their way through Belgium.
Ypres is a great town to visit and a quite short journey from either Calais or Dunkerque. The Menin gate evening service is a great focal point for the day. This was my third visit to the hotel and Ypres and I hope to be back again.

We have stayed at the Ambrosia on many times over the years. It is in an ideal location in Ypres, just off the main square and 5 mins from the Menin Gate Memorial. The rooms are very clean, warm and comfortable. The breakfast is good with a varied choice. The owners Vincent and Iwone are the perfect hosts, very friendly, speaking good English and able to offer good advice and tips on sites of interest and local restaurants. Their close associate, pebbles, works hard and does a good job supporting the running of the hotel.

This hotel is in a perfect location in the centre of Ypres, easy access to restaurants and the In Flanders Fields Museum. The Tourist Information Office is right next to the museum and the Menin Gate is also an easy walk. There are many other WWI sites of interest in the local area. The owner is very welcoming and has all the information you would need for Ypres. The rooms are very spacious, clean and have some real cool lighting. The breakfast is outstanding and again the owner could not be more helpful. Its a great place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment in this grand building. It had everything we needed for our 2-day winter stopover in Ypres. We particularly liked the historic feel of the place and the views over the snow-covered garden. Great location close to the centre of town and an easy walk to the Menin Gate. Valerie and Peter were great hosts. We met them on arrival and Peter showed us around and explained the history of the house.

Beautiful hotel. Restaurant was good for breakfast and dinner. Nice snack options in the bar.
The apartment room was enormous and well equipped. Ten minutes walk to the Menin Gate.
Staff were friendly- we just wished we were there longer.
And did I mention breakfast? The best continental breakfast I have ever had.
Fresh milk was provided at the bar for tea.

The medieval town was reconstructed after being obliterated in World War 1, and is very conscious of its heritage and the place it holds in the hearts of people from all around the world whose loved ones fought and often died near here. It is a centre for battlefield tours and the Menin Gate ceremony held each evening is unforgettable.

There are World War One cemeteries within walking distance. You could enjoy the lovely countryside by walking between quite a few cemeteries which are beautifully kept and so moving to visit. We drove to Tyne Cot the large British Cemetery and the area of Passchendale where family members had fought 100 years ago. We also visited Hill 60 and the Menin Gate with parking possible just within the city walls. Ypres is a very pleasant place to visit, explore and pay respect to those who fave so much.

At every turn you are reminded of the sacrifice of so many, but it is certainly not force-fed or commercialised; of course the nightly Menin Gate last post is the most fitting and reverent tribute. A short drive from the town is Ploegstraat with the recently unveiled UEFA tribute to the Christmas Football truce; our son left a ball there as a mark of respect (these are moved the museum on a regular basis). The café culture provides a delightful opportunity to people watch in the main square. Very relaxing place to stay and explore.
