The rooms & bathrooms were immaculately clean, beautifully presented, beds were incredibly comfortable and service was exceptional. Andres from concierge went above and beyond to get us tickets to the baseball. After 2 weeks of travelling through Japan this hotel was the clear winner for the breakfast buffet of any of the 5 star hotels we stayed at. Room service was excellent and we did it a couple of times after huge days of travelling with our young boys.

I loved that the location was close to the historic temples for lovely early walks and the quietness of the area. The service was wonderful and the room extremely clean. It was also stocked with excellent things ie. water, wafer snack and came with a wonderful welcome gift from the hotel!

perfect location to Gijon, temples, garden around, very nice cuisine resto nearby, waking distance to Kiyomizu, parking nearby and free (ask reception). Staffs are very kind and helpful, lovely mordern hotel managed by the temple. Morning free spiritual ceremony offered, lovely hotel, lovely people!!!!

The hotel is undergoing renovations and the rooms look much better than the ones in the pictures on booking. I assume they did not have time to update them yet as the renovations are not fully done. The room was very spacious and clean and the bed super comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and were pleasantly surprised by the shuttle bus service they offered to Kyoto Central Station (we used it to catch our train to Tokyo).

Very attentive and kind staff, they let us do early check-in and very helpful with any questions we had. Location is top notch - you can find amazing restaurants in the area. Highly recommend this accommodation in Kyoto

It was a beautiful Hotel and they made sure we were absolutely catered for in respect of the meals. The staff were very friendly and the hotel is situated perfectly.

Staying at Sowaka was truly unforgettable, one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment you check in, you’re guided through this beautiful traditional property, and it immediately sets the tone for something unique. We stayed in the Tea Room, and it felt absolutely magical. The room opens onto a Japanese garden, creating a peaceful, almost spiritual atmosphere. It’s the kind of calming beauty you can’t find anywhere else. The staff is exceptional. A special shoutout to the Experience Manager and to Issa at the welcome desk, they went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. They even arranged a private Zazen meditation for us, which was an incredible moment. The food is also fantastic. I highly recommend having dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. Everything felt perfect from beginning to end. Without a doubt, one of the best hotels we’ve ever experienced — truly unique and unforgettable.

Great location. Friendly staff. There’s a public bath in the basement. Very clean. Comfortable. There’s a self heating kettle in the room, cups and green tea. Quiet area, had no problems with sleep. Convenient stores nearby. Beautiful shrine just few minutes walking away from hotel. There’s a microwave on the first floor for heating your food. Good thick curtains to create darkness for a better sleep. We enjoyed our stay.

It was truly the BEST and most AMAZING experience—such a cozy and friendly hotel, with wonderful staff (who helped me a lot by sending my pendant to Tokyo after I accidentally left it at checkout). Higashiyama Metro Station is just 50 meters from the entrance, which is very convenient. The nearby river creates a perfect atmosphere, especially during breakfast in the morning and "happy hours" in the evening (with high-quality drinks - trust me!). The rooms are very spacious, with plenty of windows, and since the hotel itself isn't very large, it's wonderfully peaceful and quiet.

Our stay was very comfortable and personal - the hotel is very stylish and unique, the staff covered all our wishes and everything was impecable! The room was spacious and very nicely designed, we had enough space for a baby-bed for our daugther and it didn't feel crowded. All the facilities are new and very comfortable. The breakfast was new every day and they even prepared western-style options for us, it was very tasty.

The staff were amazing! Thank you so much for a kind reception. The breakfast was exactly what we needed after not feeling so great after being in Japan for a week or so. Very grateful for my stay here I wish we booked it for the majority of our Kyoto stay as we chose to stay in two different areas.

The hotel is enchanting, a stunning historic building full of charm. The hotel is located within a park, in the heart of Kyoto, one block from the city's main streets. An oasis of peace in the heart of the city. Everything is perfect, every corner has wonderful details, every common room (including the breakfast and tea rooms) is amazing. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. But what truly makes the stay unforgettable is the hotel staff. They are highly professional, kind and attentive to their guests' needs. A truly special place, where you'll find truly special people to welcome you.
