This location was the only place I've been that has made me a little culture shocked...not it a bad way, but it really opened my eyes to a different mindset and a different way of life. The energy here is really heavy- not a good idea to end your day with this site, I'd suggest to go to Boudhanath after to lighten your mood.
Full on once you reach the cremation area, you watch from across the river. The monkeys are bold, don't feed, they will become aggressive for more.You can;t go in the temples, it is fine to explore the mnay Vishnu lingam shrines along the river. In monsoon season when the river is full, local kids dive to hunt for coins etc. Not as moving for me as Varanasi.
Evening darshan timings apparently are not fixed although from the net I was given to understand that it was 17.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs Clear position not known When I visited on 11/Dec/2017 temple was closed by 19.00 hrs Locals including lodge owner / cab drivers were not able to clarify It will be helpful to visitors if the correct temple timings are known especially for the evening darshan
Amazing place but if you go here please remember the burning that are taking place are funerals and there are loved ones there watching so don't be a dick taking pictures and ooohing and ahhhing the whole time
If you are in the mood for some extreme sightseeing-this is the place to go. It is the Nepali Hindu holy place of burial - but for persons who are not accustomed to seeing other people dieing and getting cremated I would not recommend it.
A bit surreal; the druggies sitting next to the cremation site and being harrassed to buy necklaces while people mourn the loss of loved ones is something quite unusual. As a UNESCO site you would expect a bit more upkeep. The 1,000 NRP is quite steep for what you actually get to see (Hindu temples are off limits) and you're done within 30-45 minutes.
I arrived at the airport late at night and I had already arranged shuttle from the hotel. They picked me up and took me to the hotel. Next day they arranged me bus ticket and taxi for the next day to the Chitwan. Room was ok. Location of the hotel is foot-walk from Pashupatinath temple and from there it is a 30 minute walk to the Bodhnath stupa. Wifi works very well. Stuff is very helpful.
Lord Pashupatinath Temple, Swammbhunath , Baouddhanath , Museum, Mountain Views etc. is nice trip by rented Car.
