It was beautifully maintained and so clean. Beds were very comfortable and views from the room were amazing. It honestly is so much nicer than it even looks in photos. The house reef is incredible to snorkel at - clown fish right outside your patio at high tide. Banana fritters delivered to you every afternoon around 4-5. Power (and fan) all night. Bathrooms kept clean and were “comfortable” to use :) they had some great snorkel tours offered - we enjoyed the Mansuar tour (4-5 snorkel stops + sandbar and was a half day) & gam tour (a few snorkel spots, some amazing “passages”, and mangroves… this was a full day tour and we travelled all around gam). The dog (Goldie <3 ) is the sweetest thing - we would leave water out for her and feed her our scrap chicken and fish. She didn’t beg but was so grateful for everything (she had 5 puppies at the time we were there & was still breastfeeding her pups)

The location is perfect, you can walk to the Yembuba village, or even to Kri in low tide, the house reef is outstanding, food was delicious, super welcoming and friendly host, the room with terrace and direct access to the water

The staff here really makes a difference! There are a couple of Catalan ladies (volunteer staff) who have been very responsive to every request I have made. The location is close to a very good reef for snorkeling. Comfortable over-the-water huts. Large bed with comfortable mattress and high mosquito net. Love the oversized knit hammock! Easy pick up for divers with Soul or Turtle or Yenbuba dive centers.

This place was such a hidden gem. The family running this place is so lovely and caring (thank you Arnes, Lena, & Anna). They were so sweet & even took our laundry inside when it was raining / tidied our bed one day. They also came out and helped look for our sandal that fell into the water at night (miraculously recovered in the morning). For a simple Papuan housing structure, it was decorated beautifully with seashell curtains on the patio as well as shells lining the entire dock. There was a sand path to the toilet / dining area which was raked clean everyday. The food was incredible and they were able to cater to my vegetarian diet while still providing excellent fish-centered meals for my partner. Massive portions. A little spicy for me but doable …but I also do not have much tolerance for spice. Going in, I was concerned about the toilet and “dip Mandi” shower but they ended up having a real shower head & European style toilet. The location is very lovely - we were alone in a bay that was clean, had beautiful turquoise water, and a lovely reef. We were also within 3 km of Tarzan Diving so they were able to pick us up in the mornings for dives. The host does not speak English but we were able to translate with google & their daughter, Anna.

I booked 8 days here. I went diving for three days on the Pulau Gam and snorkeled daily on Friwen. They are about a 10 mins boat ride. The Homestay is rustic. There are two beds covered with mosquito net. They are totally fine but somehow one would get in every night. It’s an island at the equator, there are mosquitoes. Also geckos! That’s part of the adventure. The room has an interior slide lock and there’s a clipping lock with a key for locking when you’re away. Honestly I never locked my place. The island seems very safe. Kids playing, most of the folks on the island are involved in tourism, though they don’t speak much English. It wasn’t an issue. I traveled solo and spent most afternoons in the hammock, reading, writing or napping. The food was amazing, delicious, the cook is very sweet and calls you to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The fresh fish is caught daily. Vegetables and rice, very delicious and all included. Large quantities. Box lunches are available if you are diving all day. Bananas are snacks. Unlimited instant coffee, tea, hot water. The island is stunning. Sunsets amazing. The reef has more life to see while snorkeling than most places (Europe, Caribbean, US, Latin America) have to see while scuba diving! I saw turtles, squid, dolphins playing, reef sharks and millions of coral. A not about cash and other fees: you will need ~140,000 to take a ferry from Sorong to Waisai. Then you’ll need 600,000 to ride each way from Waisai to Friwen (this can be divided with others, provided there are other riders.). On Waisai, you’ll have to buy a Marine Park pass and an entry pass, in total 1,000,000. So you’ll need around 2,250,000 in cash (be prepared bc the pass can be purchased online, or card but sometimes their system is down and you have to pay cash). In Sorong airport there are four ATMs, most of them don’t work well. There are ATMs on Waisai but you have to ride a motorcycle to them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We spent 6 nights with Herman and his family at Daroyen village, and loved every moment of it. The location is stunning, bungalows over the water are basic but incredible, food delicious, and his family are lovely although very quiet and keep to themselves a lot. Herman was always making sure we were enjoying our time and was helpful meeting us in Waisai, and helping to buy the boat ticket back to Sorong. Etlin was amazing too, meeting us in Sorong at both ends of our trip and making sure we got to our hotel. We did 4 dives with Herman and Peter (dive guide) and felt safe with Peter as our guide. The dive equipment was a bit old and we were hesitant at first, but being comfortable in the water and with diving, we were so glad we went because the diving is insanely good. If you’re new to diving or not confident in assessing equipment/risks, I would suggest diving elsewhere. Amazing snorkelling right out in front on the drop off, and plenty of fish life around the nearby jetty’s.
