Could not ask for more from this wonderful shabby chic Tuscan stay at Poggio Piglia, an agriturismo cum boutique hotel converted from an old farmhouse occupied by two families and built in the 1700s. Seven years have witnessed old pigsty and wood ovens transforming into lovely rustic hotel rooms dotted with wooden beamed ceilings and four poster beds. There's a total of 10 rooms overlooking lush green Tuscan hills complete with vineyards, cypress trees, lemon trees, olive groves and rose, lavender and poppies gardens. The food served here is a perfect introduction into Tuscan cuisine with olive oil and Sangiovese wine made from their own vineyard and gardens, Chianina beef tagliata and Tuscan pane (saltless bread). The chef creatively turned olive oil into olive butter, Tuscan bread into charcoal bread and slow braised duck was bathed in Sangiovese wine with coffee powder. Thanks to the lovely staff especially Roberta and Sergio for making our stay in Tuscany enjoyable.

You definitely need a car to get here as the farm is located 2 hrs from the Rome airport (FCO), 1 hr from Florence and Siena, 1hr 40 min from San Gimignano, 20 min from Montepulciano. We stayed in a villa (2 bedroom, 1.5 baths and kitchen) for 8 nights at the beginning of September. We had a nice patio with a table, chairs and an umbrella where we had our breakfast every morning. Beds were hard (we liked that). Pools and a lake are located away from the house with apartments and the villa (need to walk ~7-10 min by the area where animals, such as pigs, sheep, and chickens, live). Only hand soap is provided, so on the way from the airport we got paper towels, shampoo and body wash as well as some food. The supermarket is only 10 min drive from the farm. If you need an iron, request it in advance. The farm has a lot of fruit trees (cherry plum, figs, pomegranate) that we picked from. We did a private wine and cured meat tasting and it was amazing thanks to Simi who was taking care of us during our stay. If you are not afraid of insects (there are a lot of them as well as scorpios) and the farm life (think of animal noises when you wake up), want to be closer to the nature and experience the freshest air and beautiful views, I highly recommend you stay here.

The house is spacious and comfy. The host is very friendly and knowledgable. She recommended some local favorites within driving distance which we ended up going twice :-). We really enjoyed our stay here.
