Very cute design, comfortable beds, amazing food and amazing staff
One of the best remote places we've stayed. Mysterious ryokan in the middle of the mountains, with lush greenery, forests, and wonderful onsen. Baths have exceeded our expectations! Wooden 'rotenburo', sauna, - too many words to write to express its beauty. Try stargazing at the veranda too! Location is perfect for someone traveling by car and has a great access to Tsumago-juku or Magome-juku, old preserved Japanese towns of Edo era. Stay there for a few days to unwind. It's a perfect spot for retreat. Will return again!
Great hosts, delicious veg and non veg food and a charming clean property on top of it. Highly recommended and one of our favorite accommodations during our month long trip to japan.
Great apartment! Has all the amenities you could want. We loved the movie room and enjoyed a cozy night! We were able to check in early and have our luggage dropped off. The host booked us a lovely dinner down the street.
Beautiful villa, amazing views, extraordinarily comfortable. The owner was helpful and prompt with everything we needed. Highly recommend.
Such a lovely home. Great location.
The view is absolutely gorgeous. The location is rural and quiet. The property is newly and thoughtfully renovated, very clean, well equipped and comfortable. We loved it!
Really nice and real onsen. Room like it should be in Japan :)
The apartment is absolutely wow - spacious, spotlessly clean and beautifully designed hundred years ago. Dinner was excellent and being able to have it here made all the difference after a long day on the Nakasendo Trail. Yasuhiro (the host) was outstanding: incredibly helpful with every request, quick to reply and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. We spent 15 days travelling across Japan and this was the best accommodation of the entire trip. Highly recommended to anyone walking the Nakasendo or exploring the Kiso Valley
Beautiful location with very new and well designed facilities. Although we slept in a tent, it was as comfortable as any hotel rooms. If you are walking the Nakasendo, this place is ideal to stay between Nagiso and Nojiri. We woke up, had some breakfast and started walking right away. From the hotel, you can spend a good 3-4 hours in the beautiful woods and villages of Nagano. The owners were very helpful pointing us to the best route to Nojiri and giving us guidance on train schedules etc.
Outstanding communication with the property prior to us arriving, and provided a lovely welcome even with keyless entry. This is a standalone accommodation in traditional Japanese style with beautiful natural wood stairs (3) into living and bedroom area. Very comfortable. Very large. Easy walking distance to the train station, a wonderful restaurant, and 7-11. Had a washer/dryer, and small bathtub.
The location and view from the room is great and the amenities of the room make it really confortable.
My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience. The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!
We had a very pleasant stay with 5 people in this wonderful lodge. The place is spacious, cosy, and very well equipped. Simply everything we needed was there, well-functioning and very clean. The kitchen as well as the bathroom have nice facilities - we particularly appreciated the coffee and cold drinking water. This is an ideal place for exploring the Kiso valley and Nakasendo route.
Tommy and his wife have done an amazing job in restoring this beautiful, historical Kominka, meticulously attending to every detail. The whole place has a beautiful feel, an incredible visual appeal and is also wonderfully comfortable and clean. The facilities are all stylish and modern will maintaining the 150+ year history of the Kominka. Tommy was a great host with excellent communication, and provided us with the history of the place as well. In addition to the luxurious bathrooms and bedrooms, and the well set-up kitchen and comfortable sitting area, there is a lovely meditation room. Tommy also offers some high-end dining options to further enhance the experience.
