Featuring mountain views and a garden, 馬籠ふるさと学校 Magome Furusato Gakkou offers accommodation attractively situated in Nakatsugawa, within a short distance of Toson Memorial Museum, Magome Wakihonjin... This is honestly the coolest guesthouse I’ve ever stayed at. First of all, it’s huge. I stayed in Dorm 2 on the second floor, and the room had more than enough space for everyone’s luggage. The bunk bed was also surprisingly spacious, with a shelf for personal items and even a locker for valuables. The staff were fantastic—especially Brandon at the reception, who was incredibly helpful, communicative, and genuinely friendly. He went out of his way to make sure all my needs were met, and he was also a great person to chat with. The entire guesthouse is spotless. Everything is clean, well-organized, and equipped with all the essentials. I especially loved the creative use of the former school building: the science lab turned into a kitchen, the classrooms into dorms, and even the principal’s office! I’m definitely trying that one next time. And the gymnasium—when was the last time I hung out in a school gym? Such a nostalgic and fun experience. If you’re visiting Magome-juku and looking for a place that’s both cool and comfortable, this is the one.

Residence Hotel Takayama Station is situated conveniently in the centre of Takayama, and offers a fitness centre, free WiFi and a terrace. This 4-star hotel offers luggage storage space. Great location. Staff are helpful, pleasant, and speak sufficient English. The room itself is essentially an apartment, so the value for the price is outstanding. Includes a washer/dryer! And they helped me with luggage forwarding.

This was a great introduction to a ryokan experience. While it’s part of a chain, it still felt authentic. Very spacious rooms, impeccable cleanliness. The onsen is one of the best we’ve experienced, with a view of ghe mountains. The food was so generous, prepared with the highest level of attention to sourcing local ingredients, respecting seasonal produce, and balancing flavors. This was a really lovely stay.

Conveniently situated in the centre of Takayama, HOTEL WOOD TAKAYAMA provides air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. Amazing location, facility and spa! Everything was perfect, we would come back for sure!

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. Calm, nice peaceful vibes, everything was perfect. Epic showers.

Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

Oyado Koto No Yume er í aðeins 2 mínútna göngufjarlægð frá Takayama-stöð og býður upp á litrík herbergi í japönskum stíl. The room was very big and comfortable, everything was clean and tidy. We loved it so much that we decided to stay an extra night, and the staff was able to accomodate our needs immediately. The location is great, just a couple blocks away from the train station and 15 min walk from the historic area of the city

Nestled in the tranquil Hida Mountains, Miyama Ouan Kyoritsu Resort offers traditional accommodation featuring hot spring baths and nature views. Hotel staffs were really nice and helpful, the hotel was very clean and nice, and the onsen was amazing! We had our own private onsen in our room but we also tried the private outdoor as well and both were amazing. Breakfast and dinner were amazing as well. We love the free coffee, beer, tofu and ice creams. Would totally visit again!

6.4 km from Mt. Ena Weston Park, まち宿-machiyard- is a recently renovated property set in Nakatsugawa and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. Amazing staff who were very friendly and accomodating. Provided all toiletries and exceptionally clean rooms.
