Babalao Bungalows has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Nungwi. We were looking for a genuine homely place that will give us thw true feeling of Zanzibar. We didnt want to be in a big hotel where we are just a number and our stay was amazing. Max the owner is true gem in hospitality, he really loves hosting and giving you the true Zanzibar experience, the staff is also nice & if you looking to be treated as if you are home Babalao is the place. Theres also great Resturants that Max recommended and we tried them...our favourite was Barack and the "fresh from the sea" seafood barbaque on the beach is an amazing experience. Theres tons of activities at your doorstep and you spoiled for choice and come back to your home fully welcomed and its peaceful like a small "big" family. Thanks Max and your lovely wife for giving us the true Zanzibar holiday experience.

With Paje Beach reachable in a few steps, Ananda Beach Hotel provides accommodation, a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, a garden and a private beach area. The view of the beach was very nice. The Hello Capitano restaurant had nice seating arrangements, with nice views of the beach. The sea facing room we got had a nice cushioned area where you could lie down and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and the waves, which was extremely relaxing in the morning.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained. After long beach days in Nungwi, coming back here felt like returning home, not just to a hostel. The food deserves a special mention—simple, fresh, and made with care. Breakfast by the pool, with the Zanzibar breeze and sunlight filtering through, was one of those slow-life moments you wish you could pause. What truly elevates Hostel 197, though, are the people. The staff are incredibly friendly, professional, and well-trained always attentive without being intrusive. And then there’s the owner, Johnny. A genuinely charming man with a constant, easy smile. He goes out of his way to make sure every guest feels comfortable, accommodating requests as if hosting friends rather than customers. The poolside hostel beds are surprisingly comfortable, the vibe is relaxed yet lively, and the overall experience delivers way more than the price suggests. In a place like Nungwi where beauty is everywhere Hostel 197 adds something deeper: warmth, care, and authenticity. If you’re traveling to Zanzibar and looking for a place that blends comfort, community, and value effortlessly this is it. Some stays are temporary. This one feels memorable.

There's butter, peanut butter and some sauces. There's a toaster for the bread. Each person gets two eggs per breakfast by opting out the preparation way - scrambled, boiled, Spanish omelet... Fruits is abundant (watermelon and papaya during my stay). Instant coffee and couple of variates of a Tanzanian tea are an option as well. Juice is available also.

The staff, facilities, food, service, and kindness were outstanding. I was sick with a fever and cough, and they offered me a free ginger tea—magical. They also arranged a taxi for me to go to the pharmacy, even though I didn’t have any cash and could only pay with Apple Pay, as I had just discovered my credit card had expired. A perfect and safe place.
