I loved this hotel. For those of us who were going elsewhere and have been roughing it for a bit this hotel is a nice reset. The staff are great, kind, and while the check in process takes a bit longer it is well worth the wait. The room is spacious, brand new, clean - it was exactly what I was looking for. Chances are I'll be staying and going to San Agustin once more. There's one thing I do know - I'm not staying anywhere else but here.

This very eclectic architectural gem of a hotel is situated with beautiful views and has an extensive, lovely garden. The staff are warm and personable, bringing their local expertise and a lot of good humor with them! The onsite guest only restaurant had well prepared, varied offerings. Last minute since we did not prepare ahead, they helped us secure a very personable guide with excellent english for two days of touring. The flight to Pitalito and short taxi ride to San Agustin are entirely worth it….scenery and archaeologic sites are fabulous! The town of San Agustin is welcoming and attractive as well!

We booked this place because of the pics and the great reviews and it was everything we expected and more. The staff was great, easy to find, enough space for parking, lovely room (thumbs up for design in general), excellent shower (great pressure and temperature, get the Venus room!), delicious breakfast and really stunning views. We enjoyed some drinks at the terrace at sunset, and we had a wonderful sunrise. We had a very good sleep thanks to the quietness and the darkness in the room. Highly recommended, great value for money!!!

As long as you stay away from the town centre, you avoid the constant desert tour touts, but you can't blame people for making a living. Felt totally safe wandering around alone at night, you can swim in the river and the desert is amazing. Could have stayed 2 nights instead of one but had a plane to catch

There is basically not much to see in Neiva from a turistic point of view. They have an archeological museum but it is closed at the weekends. The waterfront is pretty badly maintained and not much of the river water can be seen. Some of the food vendors in the market take advantage of the foreigners and double the prices. Unless you are really interested in seeing what this city looks like, it is not worth it. The place is hot, with temperatures of 32-34 in the day and 22-23 during the night.

I had just over three days in San Agustin (4 nights).

I had just over three days in San Agustin (4 nights). I could have done one less but the bus didn't arrive until late afternoon on day 1. Day 2 I went to the archaeological park on my own, day 3 a group tour and day 4 a private tour of the other sites which are covered separately as nobody seems to run a tour to them. The hotel organised them all. The group tour is really good value as it's a full day and you go to lots of sites. It's COP60k and there 7 in the group I was part of. There is a strange ending at an amusement park whch would bes best skipped. It's easy to go the archaeological park on your own (buy the 2-day ticket when you get there). There was a bus running but it was COP10k in a taxi and a 40 min walk (downhill back) Lots of stuff online about bus schedules - two bus companies have ticket office on the main street and posters outside. Times are different to anything online. Some buses run from the centre and some start at a newly built bus station a couple of miles out of town. The mini bus to Neiva (815am) took almost 7hrs due to roadworks and was v uncomfortable despite calling it a premium service. I think there were smart, large coaches going at other times from then main bus station There ins't much reason to be in the town itself. There are a couple of good places the main sq for food and drink and there's a tourist street a few blocks over

An active city surrounded by mountains. Walking around is safe and there are countless food options. My best examply is that its a tiny Medellin. Beautiful views with great people and a relaxed environment.

We stayed here to visit the Tatacoa desert - well worth the trip - it does take a bit of an effort to get here - we stayed here 2 nights and could have stayed another day to enjoy the pool - one day in the desert was enough for us .

Provincial capital, strategic location for excursions to desert and San Agustin. Good airport with many regional connections. Really not much to to do there. Busy downtown area like most Colombian cities, few things to see by the riverside. 1 day is more than enough. Climate hot and humid.

I have been to a lot of Colombia now, and San Agustin is the best town/city I have been in. Beautiful at night, safe, interesting. Very calm and peaceful. The UNESCO site was extremely disappointing. It's basically been destroyed. They have found lots of (great) statues in the forest, dragged them out and stuck them on concrete slabs next to a path. A few statues have been collected together at the top of a hill. The connection between the statues and their environment has been absolutely annihilated. And the people who made the statues, in the middle of the forest, thought "big stone, will never be moved, cool statue in the forest'. Nope. Sad for me; disgraceful for the fools who have destroyed this site. Nice walk in the forest, the statues themselves are cool, but basically heartbreaking.

I had 3 nights/2 days here and you woukdn't any more. I had to work one day and did a 12-hour trip the other. The village is interesting in seeing small town life but there's not much reason to hang around and things close early in the evening. The trip 9am-9pm had around 15 participants in two vehicles with one guide. There was a short trip on the river, a brief walk to see insects, catci etc, hours in the grey visit (with a slightly challenging walk), lunch, time as the swimming pool in the desert, the red desert for sunet and the observatory (worth it) - it was COP150k The hotel told me how much it would cost in tuktuks etc but having come back from the observatory, it was quite a long way. To do it on your own, I think it would be better to say in the desert otherwise from Villavieja, this trip is a good way of fitting it all in. There was another trip options of half day, 2hrs in each desert with a spanish speaking guide but that was also COP150k and you wouldn't experience enough but it's an option for those with less time

Neiva looks sad, abandoned, and dangerous. There is nothing interesting to see. Stay away. I stayed there one night and it was too long. Certain hotels show pictures that do not represent reality. Don’t fall for it.
