It is more touristic than I thought, a bit overcrowded for...

It is more touristic than I thought, a bit overcrowded for my taste. One reason to not take the cable car up the mountain. If you like crowds and lots of restaurants you're at the right place. We had a good meal in Willingen. We went to the hang bridge (Sky walk) nearby, we visited the Dimeltalsperre and we went shopping in Winterberg.

Loved the big room with all the facilities.

Loved the big room with all the facilities. The spa with multiple saunas, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and relaxation rooms. The use of the spa was included in the room rate. The champagne breakfast spread was excellent. There was also free covered parking.

The town has a few pleasant 18th to early 19th C town houses...

The town has a few pleasant 18th to early 19th C town houses, and a modest parish church. Most are strung along the single street, with the train station at one end, and the Schloss at the other (about 20-25 mins walk apart). The Schloss is the real highlight. Otherwise, the town is rather limited in interest. The town offers very limited accommodation, and rather few restaurants.

This was an overnight getaway for us instead of a day trip...

This was an overnight getaway for us instead of a day trip from Frankfurt. The dam on Edersee Lake with views of this castle and the lake views from the castle were fantastic. The hotel had every luxury. The cafe was a great place to sit on the terrace and enjoy a beer with views of the lake. The Alte Turmuhr restaurant was excellent. Really nice overnight getaway.

Willingen is a nice village located in stunning nature.

Willingen is a nice village located in stunning nature. But it nevertheless became a hotspot for stag and hen parties and the likes. If you're looking for a calm and quiet place you need to come in Novembre or February. But if you - like we did - are keen to combine outdoor sports with a vibrant nightlife you've come to the right spot.

Bad Wildungen is a super small city.

Bad Wildungen is a super small city. It has several historic attractions, a cool pedestrian “alt stadt” and several interesting shops. There are many things to see in immediate area. It is a great location to do day trips from.

We arrived late afternoon with our two teenage sons and...

We arrived late afternoon with our two teenage sons and after settling in and having a cold drink in the castle yard we had dinner in a nearby village. The next day we took the lift down to Edersee where we rented a boat for a couple of hours enjoying the wonderful landscape from the water side. We spend the afternoon in Wildpark Edersee wandering for three hours. We had a lovely day.

Willingen has changed a lot In 1980-83 I was here nearly every Wedensday and Saturday Skiing. There is a lot more to do and see in Willingen. The hiking trails are great there are a lot of Mountain bike trails as well. One small point if you want to eat at one of the more well known resataurants at 19.00 make sure you reserve a table the day before.

The main reason for our visit was to visit our family that...

The main reason for our visit was to visit our family that lives there. Plus we arrived when most of the summer activities and events were almost over. We managed to see one event which was the Potato festival and there were other activities taking place the last week of September, so unfortunately we couldn't be there. Bad Wildungen is noted for their big forests so one could go for lots of long walks and enjoy the outdoors. There and lots of lovely Summer activities that takes place there every year.
