#1 hotel. Really nice and clean. Great free buffet breakfast from 4 AM on. Welcome drinks and all. The hotel manager is extremely nice and speaks really good English. On a short notice he arranged a taxi from the hotel to Beni Hasan for a visit. He also helped us figuring out transport from Minya to Sohag. All the staff are extremely nice. Keep it up!

After booking the hotel, I contacted them right away to begin planning my trip; whichever number listed here (it was correct) set me up with the manager Andrew. Andrew communicated quickly within his business hours (time delay because of time zones) and thoroughly. When I met him at the hotel he was no less help! Frankly, Andrew and his staff were the nicest hotel staff in my whole month of Egypt and there was no hustling when I was coming and going throughout my stay; they were kind and professional asking me how my day went and if they could recommend anything. I contacted them early in order to arrange a driver to visit the sites around the city and Andrew set me up with George who was a wonderful driver and helped me navigate my way around the sites; George even brought me to several pyramids tourists don't typically visit! My only wish about this stay is that Minya were a greater tourist destination!

The breakfast was fine. Fresh beledi bread every day with cheese, hard boiled egg and hallway. And it was so nice to wake up in the morning and look out at the Nile. What impressed me most was how the manager went out to get my medicine for me so I did not have to walk to the Pharmacy. There is a wonderful restaurant called Orkeed on the floor below the hotel that serves a huge delicious half duck meal - it was so nice not to have to go out and look for a restaurant for lunch and dinner.

Peter's family were all very kind and helpful. I was also very happy that all the children and adults from the town welcomed me His father also made me an Egyptian dress, Jalabeiyah, which made me really happy I think you can understand the real Egypt by going here. You should definitely come here when you come to Egypt

We came to this beautiful and peaceful place and felt very welcome. Everything was nicely decorated for the Christmas season. A nativity scene in the lobby and Christmas tree chocolates in the room. The view, the ancient church, the friendly staff....all perfect. Very clean, great beds and good food. We even were able to walk down to the Nile and talk to some farmers in the field. The policeman that accompanied us was also our translator. We highly recommend this hotel and will be back.

I literally cannot recommend staying with Peter enough.

I literally cannot recommend staying with Peter enough. Peter curated and tailored a stay for me and my four friends in Minya to all of our interests! We had an amazing time staying in his family home, eating delicious meals (chicken, rice, lentils, rice - traditional Egyptian breakfast), and speaking with his kind mother and father. The home is cozy and the beds were warm. Peter knows everyone in Idmo so he was able to set us with such cool outings- we visited the village oven, a local artisan’s home, churches, and a beautiful sugar cane farm. This stay in Minya exceeded all my expectations and I cannot recommend any higher a visit to Peter’s home!

It was an excellent base for visiting archaeological sites...

It was an excellent base for visiting archaeological sites in Middle Egypt and also the beautiful monastery of St. Abahour. Walking by the Nile along the Corniche near the Istanbul Hotel is delightful and there are lots of cafes where you can sit down to relax with a tea or a coffee. If you want an alcoholic drink there is a very pleasant bar at the Nefertiti Hotel, also on the Corniche.

In retrospect, I would not recommend Minya to non-egyptians...

In retrospect, I would not recommend Minya to non-egyptians unless you are a hard-core Ancient Egypt nut, and/or the Akhenaton museum finally opens. (I went on the impression it was open but I was misinformed, and disappointed!) The sites in the region are underwhelming when time could be better spent somewhere else. Tell El Amarna is decent but you will no longer be taken to Akhenaton's tomb since it was flooded and damaged by rains a few years ago. Beni Hassan has artwork which is unique in Pharaonic Egypt but not sure its worth a dedicated trip. Expect a police escort everywhere you go: from train station to hotel, walking along corniche, taxi tour etc. Its annoying.
