The staff was EXCEPTIONAL. After two long days of travel & so excited about finally being at our destination, I left my purse on the train. At the hotel everyone jumped into action to help me get it back! (It was delivered to the hotel by the conductor himself.) I really cannot thank the staff enough for saving our holiday. Also, the room was spotless and cozy.

Honestly I didn’t like anything no lift complicated stair layout… TV in the room didn’t work (cable was missing), paint flaking off wall my case and trousers were covered in speckles of paint in the morning. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone if I hadn’t been only staying for one night for work I would of left.

The place was decent for one night stay, but they double charged me for the room and I have been trying to get my money back for the last 3 months. Not ok at all. I will never return to that place with this hospitality approach. Bait and switch is their method and then not answering the calls at all or manager is never present to take responsibility or answer questions. Very convenient for them.

The proprietors Euan & Emma were excellent company and very attentive to guests' needs. The hotel had an excellent menu with accompanying wines, beers, spirits, if required. The hotel also had an extensive range of locally-produced spirits. The accommodation was excellent and well-equipped. The only down-side was the lack of TV reception - although being without TV was somewhat of a blessing!

Castletown is a small village within easy reach of Thurso and John O'Groats, making it handy for onward travel to Orkney by both ferry routes from Scrabster and Gills Bay. Wick is also only approximately 14 miles away. The harbour is within walking distance from the main street and other pleasant walks nearby. Castletown Hotel offers evening meals and weekend lunches. A local shop has long opening hours which sells a variety of goods, handy if you've forgotten to pack for example, toiletries.

Lybster is a small, cozy town on the coast.

Lybster is a small, cozy town on the coast. We had an over the night stay, had dinner in the hotel and enjoyed a shot of whiskey in the hotel pub after an evening walk along its street. To some extend the town looked uninhabited, likely because it was a working day, we encountered less than 5 people. Only a few visitors in the camping spots along the ridge. We parked easily in front of the hotel building.
