Our room was huge, with a very comfortable bed, stunning views, and a nice big bathroom. The grounds are exquisite, and the forest walk was lovely. We loved everything about our stay. Hotel near to good road access but very quiet itself and back from road. Darlington itself is a mix of old and new. Still enough of the history left to make it enjoyable. Lovely cafe above Waterstones. Good craft and real ale bar a short walk from Ballantyne. Town Centre still has a good Department Store. You can go anywhere from Darlington rail station for a day trip. Locomotion museum is great for families.

If it hadn’t been for a family wedding, I would not have chosen to visit Hartlepool. The town felt very run down, with many shops closed and little to do. It came across as a sad and struggling area. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of racial incidents, which made us feel uncomfortable. If you are a person of colour, this may not feel like a welcoming or friendly place to visit.

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory days (before the peers were demolished) with the refurbishment of the town centre. The beach is long and sandy and the sea water clear and swimmable if you avoid the rocks. The promenade is worth a walk, passed the fishing boats and the oldest lifeboat in the world museum. Not many restaurants but plenty of cafes.

We loved the view of the sea from the windows upstairs and downstairs. We had Fish and Chips the first night from the Church Fish and Chip Shop and they were really good. We also ate at a Thai Restaurant in the Town Centre that was called Coco & Rum. From the outside it looked like a Cocktail Bar but inside it's decorated really nicely and the food was excellent. It wasn't far to walk up to Town and just round the corner from Amber Street we found a shop called Weird Idea which had some brilliant items and we ended up buying 3 things. It was so full of quirky items that we didn't know where to look.

As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. The on-street parking is a real bonus - used to be free (time-limited), but is now very reasonably priced, and still enables visitors to be at the centre of things immediately.

A nice market town with easy countryside walks. The bakery is a highlight, 70p for scones and £1.50 for a generous slice of cake. The town has a Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, M&S food, Iceland, and Heron Foods. It's easy to walk to Guisborough Forest and join the Cleveland Trail.

Easy to travel to by car, just off main road. Easy access to market town of Guisborough, not far from Middlesbrough, country views. Went to Pinchinthorpe for breakfast, approx one mile away. Great place just for breakfast or to set off for a hill or forest walk, small exhibition. Very child snd dog friendly. The CrossKeys isn't in the village of Nunthorpe but is a short car journey away.
