Our room was huge, with a very comfortable bed, stunning views, and a nice big bathroom. The grounds are exquisite, and the forest walk was lovely. We loved everything about our stay. The best part about staying at Crathorne Hall though is the magical staff. Martin and Gloria made us feel like family, and their personal attention was the difference that made the difference. Breakfast at the restaurant was superb. Very accommodating with little kids and we just had a wonderful time. My husband grew up in Redcar and we were visiting his parents with all 6 of us. It was a wonderful spot 15 mins away from them and very convenient. We will be booking here every time we visit from now on. Thank you - The Arthurs

Plenty of shopping and a conscious effort to tie into railway history. Nearby Raby Castle was quite impressive and travel to Darlington by rail and around town on foot, as well as bus, was easy. Not typically a tourist destination, but I had family from Darlington, some of whom went to the States in the late 19th C. The public library has an excellent local history department Saint Cuthbert's Church is a lively, very old, stone building at the center of town. Saltfish, located in Houndgate Townhouse, serves excellent food.

A nice market town with easy countryside walks. The bakery is a highlight, 70p for scones and £1.50 for a generous slice of cake. The town has a Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, M&S food, Iceland, and Heron Foods. It's easy to walk to Guisborough Forest and join the Cleveland Trail.
