The most beautiful lodge we had the pleasure to stay at! Nested in the jungle, it felt like a dream to relax listening to the sound of the forest. Everything is beautiful at the Jungle Guide, and the staff is very kind and helpful. We even had the chance to listen to some of them playing the guitar and singing, it was lovely! I can't recommend it enough!

We loved our hostess Tia and the other people who work at Rambai Tree Jungle Lodges, they we're all so helpful and friendly. We also enjoyed to be a little more secluded as the lodge is up between the trees, but still in walking distance of everything you need. The accommodation also had a good restaurant!

The place is beautiful and quiet. The staff is amazing, very helpful. They also offer trekkings to the jungle. I did a 3-day trekking. It was the best. We saw orang-utans, had delicious food and the guides were very knowledgeable.

Our 9 days stay in Santi Garden bungalows was absolutely amazing The bungalow had enough space for the 3 of us, the veranda with the hammock was perfect to relax and admire the views to the sea and Rubiah island. The feeling of staying in the jungle listening the birds and watching the monkeys was a unique experience. The location was perfect just 5 minutes walk to the village of Ipoh, and Olala restaurant. next to the hotel had nice reasonable priced food and marvelous views Santi was really helpful answering all our questions before our arrival and giving us helpful information during our stay Robi was also always around to help and arrange everything we needed We will always remember these kind people who made our stay to the beautiful island of Palaw Weh the best experience we had in our 2 months trip in Malaysia and Indonesia We'll soon come back!!!

We love everything about the place. It feels very homey and the staff were excellent. It is an ecolodge so, a nice little walk to the property from the reception is always welcome. The location is really close to Bukit Tinggi city centre but you won't realise it as the lodge was so quiet. It is a true zen.

I will tell you what to do: 1. Learn English 2. Buy flight tickets 3. Buy some rupees 'Uncle Sam' takes care of everything else (airport transportation, food, drinks, trekking, traveling in the forest... whatever comes to your mind). Opening your window curtains and seeing the Rainforest and the river... I'll be honest, I didn't expect this much. It was an incredible experience for me.

It's hard to explain how amazing this place and the people that work here are. They took perfect care of our entire group of 14 ranging from my 1 year old son to my 70 year old mother in law. Everything, from the time I started planning the trip till check out was just perfect. Accommodation: Super comfrortable with fans and coolers in all rooms and ACs in some. Food: Fantastic, some of the best we had in Indonesia. Local food and western were both superb. Staff: Incredible. Super friendly and effective. Organized our pick up at midnight in 10+ motorbikes. Sang songs for us. Played with our babies. Made the mothers laugh. Took care of all of our needs with a smile, even quirky ones. Ask and Jungle Inn shall deliver. It has direct access to the river so you will never have a dull moment. They also help guests organize any activity / experience they want to have in the jungle.

A gem of a hotel and quite unexpected in Jambi. Spotlessly clean, wonderfully comfortable, quiet, tastefully decorated, and equipped with every amenity. A delightful rooftop cafe/restaurant. Helpful, courteous, friendly and efficient staff. The best hotel I stayed in during an entire month travelling the length and breadth of Sumatra. Really first class.

One should never expect too much of cities in Sumatra and Palembang is no exception. The only area of any interest is the old commercial area near the river and the fort. The grand mosque is worth a cursory look, but the only building of any distinction is the greatly restored museum, which dates from Dutch times. Apart from that, Palembang is pretty unattractive, litter choked and to a large extent semi derelict.

Basically Padang is for people who probably finds food hunting their choice of travel. For me, going to Padang was a gateway to Kerinci, for the mountain hike. Padang in itself did not have much sightseeing places to offer but perhaps we did not take the island tours or any waterfall visits. Overall, it's a nice small place to chill and relax.

There was virtually no tourism here; every person I saw was a local, which made the visit authentic and relaxing. If you want to stretch out and sip tropical drinks, this is not your place; if you want to truly experience life as an Indonesian might, it is perfect. Food was startlingly inexpensive, especially the street food. Even Western food was about 1/4 the price I might expect in other ASEAN countries.

Tuk Tuk is mainly where beginner tourists stay, just like me. Tuk Tuk has many restaurants, cafes, hotels, resorts, homestays and guesthouses. Those are located along the main road at Tuk Tuk as well. If you do not want to spend on cafes and restaurants, no worries, there are convenient stores and shops along the main road. Very simple. But I would suggest people go to the restaurant and eat their local cuisines and seafood for the better. The only downside is the main road of Tuk Tuk is very troublesome and tough to walk and cycle as it is very steep going up and down. It is not a road that is stable. I would recommend people take a motorbike, scooter or car to travel along the main road.

When travelling I prefer to enjoy the place & mix with the people instead of hopping from one place to another spending hours in a car. Eating where they eat & shopping where they shop instead of “touristic” destinations. I walked around from the house to Ngarai Sianok then Jam Gadang. The weather cooperated throughout my stay, but the crowds were packed due to the town 29th anniversary celebrations. Maybe visiting during mid year instead of monsoon & peak holiday seasons will give more time to enjoy the areas. The costs are friendly to the wallet & even small food stalls around the areas are delicious & representing the traditional dishes.

A typical Sumatran city.

A typical Sumatran city. Overcrowded, dirty, largely derelict, and poorly maintained. Not a place to stay in for long, it seems to me. Wisely, l was just passing through so I have no idea of the local "attractions", but I doubt whether there are any. Getting around is best achieved on the back of a Gojek bike.

Cesspool!! Open sewers everywhere.

Cesspool!! Open sewers everywhere. The whole town stinks of human and animal waste. Very dirty, trash everywhere. Hostile environment towards outsiders and tourists. Locals openly abuse animals all the time. Impossible to safely consume any food that is not pre-packaged from a Western brand. Consuming anything local or freshly made carries a high risk of infections, parasites, and diseases. No soap anywhere. Everyone tries to cheat you. Hike with Berastagi Adventures is an exception. They are good guides.

Banda Ache as a city is quite abysmal.

Banda Ache as a city is quite abysmal. Litter strewn so untidy. Noisy .Pavements/sidewalks are appalling mostly. The tsunami museum well worth visiting, it’s the only thing there, apart from the quite good ferry terminal used to go to the islands. Finding the boat on the roof very difficult, you have to persevere in the many twists and turns. Drivers here on Samartra have no driver awareness or road etiquette for fellow drivers, and an even lower respect for pedestrians- drivers are rude, intolerant, drive far too fast for a city and give no thought to anyone but themselves. Locals can be very friendly or ignore you. Not a pleasant city
