- From $223.87 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,567 reviewsWe drove from Tokyo to Takaragawa. Easy drive and was pleased that it was not snowing hard as we only have snow tires. You will need chains if the snow is very heavy. Location was breath taking and the beauty of the Onsen was amazing, perched along the river. Check in was smooth and there was a English speaking staff to check us in. Dinner and breakfast was amazing and was please that they asked for food restrictions when making a booking as my daughter does not eat seafood and they provide her options. It was a Ryokan style accommodations. Would have preferred an extra pillow. I guess we could have asked for one. But over all experience just amazing. It is a beautiful Onsen surrounded by nature. We were there when snow was falling so it made the experience even more magical.Guest review bySharonaSingapore
- From $173.81 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 188 reviewsPeaceful Location, close enough to the ski park we wanted to visit. We could have stayed our whole trip at the hotel with food options, pool and onsen. The staff was accommodating to us not speaking Japanese and very friendly. The room catered to family with kids slippers, robes and toothbrushes. We enjoyed exploring all the local scenery, waterfalls and beautiful town of Karuizawa. We would love to return again.Guest review byArielJapan
- From $120.14 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.9Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 799 reviewsThe hotel is located in the heart of Kusatsu town and enjoyed the illuminated night Yubatake which is a few steps from the front door. We had a nice view from the large room with a table and chairs and a tatami room, good value. They had shuttle bus to take us to another nearby sister hotel to experience different Onsen.Guest review byTomikoUnited States

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.Guest review byJurrienThailand - 10.0

Just an hour and a half from Tokyo, Minakami is a charming mountain town known for its natural beauty and warm, welcoming people. With a variety of outdoor activities and just a handful of cozy restaurants and bars, it’s easy to find your favorites without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, Minakami offers a perfect blend of simplicity and charm.Guest review byManeshIndia - 10.0

Lots of places to visit, snake centre, insect world, beautiful countryside. Also historic places related to their textile trade. We ate in many different places, all good and affordable. The trains at the main station go to other towns and cities that you can visit. Excellent communication network. No many buses in the city of Kiryu, so we walked mainly but it was worth it. We met many locals who were very kind and helpful. I will go again but not in the summer, it was extremely hot, 37 to 40 degrees most daysGuest review byMarta - 10.0
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.Guest review byjonathanAustralia - 10.0

While waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up in Jomo Kogen, we got suggestion from the lady officer in Information Center to visit Tsukiyono garden. We came in mid April 2025 and there are still a lot of sakura. whereever you shoot your camera, the result of the photo is amazing. there is also a small grocery that serve udon/ramen as well. I bought a watermelon in that grocery and the lady in Udon stall lend me her knife to cut it. the watermelon is very small, compared to what I used to eat in Indonesia, but this minakami watermelon is very juicy and its flesh is so thick yet tender.Guest review byLilyIndonesia - 10.0

You can't miss the smell, but the view and the atmosphere are totally worth it!! Highly recommended to visit There are free footbaths around the town, just don't forget to bring your own towel. Plenty of places to stop for food, be it snacks or a meal.Guest review byNicAustralia - 10.0
Amazing picturesque location!
Amazing picturesque location! Mineral water was natural and wonderful. Be prepared to sleep on a futon on the floor, but other than that very comfortable. People are very nice anyways in Japan, but the staff here was particularly helpful and accommodating. Free shuttle bus from Jomo-Kogen was a real plus which enabled us to get there from Tokyo via Shinkansen. Wish we could have stayed longer!Guest review byIraUnited States
