The hotel feels like one big Japanese spa. No shoes inside at all, free onsen facility and free ramen every evening. Most guests enjoy these facilities at the end of the day and are wearing the super comfy Japanese pygamas provided. Staying here was a lovely experience.

We spent 15 days in Japan and this hotel was without a doubt our best stay of all!!! The hotel is absolutely immaculate — super clean, modern, with a huge and very comfortable room! An incredible view!! Pure luxury! Fantastic bathroom products, a very large bathroom with the toilet and shower separated — truly a dream room! The staff were all amazing, super friendly, and there was free parking right in front of the hotel! Breakfast itself was a whole experience!! Delicious bread and croissants, a Japanese set with fantastic food, great coffee, fresh juices, and local teas! I could go on all day praising this hotel — it was truly incredible, and definitely one I’d love to repeat someday.

Historical building in a quiet street converted from a sake brewery into a small hotel with restaurant area. Our twin room had own bathroom with a lovely wooden tub, sitting room and bedroom. Looked onto rear garden . Very welcoming and informative staff who were helpful and proud of their role in Nara. Easy location from train station and to walk to the sights around the town. Loved the Japanese evening dinner paired with local Sake’s and the traditional breakfast, some of the best food I’ve tasted this week . Minibar drinks in room well appreciated . Beds and pillows very comfortable. Staying overnight was lovely to see the town after the crowds have left in the evening.

I travelled with my elderly mom (77) and sister to Japan for celebrate my sister's 50th birthday. The Ando Hotel Nara exceeded our expectations. The Ando Hotel, is a wonderful quiet place, away from the beautiful but busy town of Nara with its charming population of deer. We found the hotel be excellent value for money. Our room rate included an exceptional 5 course Kaiseki dinner, transfers to and from the from the train station, a complimentary night tour to see the deer and view over Nara, Japanese breakfast, smores, complimentary drinks by the fire place and a private sunset onsen bath. This hotel is a 5 star plus plus, with beautiful calm rooms, thoughtful, kind, highly professional staff and beautiful views over Todai-ji Temple and Nara. Exceptionally professional staff add to the calm quiet ambiance of this hotel. The dinner was exquisite, the best meal we had in Japan and it is served in an elegant restaurant with a view over Nara. The kind and professional staff explained each seasonally inspired dish which was beautifully presented. My sister is vegetarian and I contacted the hotel prior to our stay and they were very accommodating. Thank you to Mayuko who served us at dinner and presented us, with a beautiful kind hand written note (in English) on our departure. The hotel is a short taxi drive from the centre so we used a taxi to visit Todai-ji temple first thing in the morning. We only stayed one night and wished we had stayed longer. If you are flying into or out of Osaka to visit Kyoto I highly recommend this hotel at the beginning of your trip to ease into Japan or as a post Kyoto stay. Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to make our time so special.

Everything was incredibly comfortable. The room was amazing, the service was fantastic, and the location was absolutely perfect. It’s one of those rare places you already want to return to while still staying there. One important tip for future guests: the hotel has a chef and offers a wonderful dinner experience, but it needs to be booked in advance. Unfortunately, we didn’t know that and stayed only two nights, so there wasn’t enough time for them to prepare it for us. If you are planning to stay here, definitely message them beforehand and arrange the dinner.

What an experience! From the moment we got there all staff came to greet us. They served us with matcha tea and showed us to our room. The room is really beautiful and has a very cool japanese style look. The onsen was a highlight of the stay. They give you all the info you need to understand the rules to use it, and it’s such a great experience to have. Everything in the hotel was so clean and beautiful, the employees were super polite. A 10/10 experience, would really recommend this.

Super big rooms (all the premises, actually) with one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in Japan, everything is spotlessly clean, the public bath is beautiful, the staff lovely, and there's a free shuttle bus to both JR and Kintetsu Nara stations. Great place. Deer everywhere!

Great place. Deer everywhere! The deer park was our main draw, the primeval forest and temples. Todaji temple was amazing. We loved walking the deer park, feeding the deer (and being nibbled by the deer). The primeval forest and carvings in the Buddha caves were challenging to find but great fun. A relaxing place.

I really enjoyed my stay.

I really enjoyed my stay. The area is peaceful and the hotel has a very relaxed, but high-end vibe, minus amenities like pool, gym, restaurants. Although they have a nice restaurant next door with grocery/gift shop. The staff are wonderful and make you feel very welcomed! The hotel is at a base of the mountain and is outside the city which is worked for me, but if you need to be in the center till late, you will need to chip out the $10 taxi ride from the station. Will definitely visit again!

i liked the Kashihara Jingu and the visit to various burial places of former tenno. on my last day, i visited the Omiwa Jinja; there is an observation hill where you could watch the sunset over Kashihara city. walking around town however, you can notice the signs of declining population and abandoned shops. there are a few good ramen shops in the area if you know where to find them, like Saika Ramen, highly recommended for its spicy flavour.

The shrines, temples, deer, and natural setting are a delight. Fellow tourists are not such a delight. I wish there was some attempt by the authorities to control the torture of the deer. It was so dispiriting that I went through minor roads this time just to avoid the spectacle. Happily, I found additional delights off the beaten path.
