As the green heart of the Netherlands, the Veluwe features typical Dutch landscapes ranging from wetland to woodland to inland sand dunes. It centres on the country’s most popular national park, Hoge Veluwe - a haven for wildlife including birds, deer and wild boar.
As well as offering cycling, horseriding and walking, the 5,400-hectare park houses the excellent Kröller-Müller Museum featuring the world’s 2nd largest Van Gogh collection, and an eclectic sculpture garden. Other Hoge Veluwe museums include the Jachthuis Sint Hubertus, a Kröller family residence designed by Berlage, the architect behind Amsterdam’s Beurs.
Some of the closest Veluwe B&Bs are in Arnhem, well-known for its role in World War II. To the west is the university town of Wageningen with its beautiful botanical gardens, while neighbouring Ede is situated by a lush forest.
