Located in Chitwan, 25 miles from Tharu Cultural Museum, Chital lodge provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. This 1-star hotel offers a bar. The family are great, the peace and quiet at the lodge is excellent, the food was very good, and the safaris were amazing. If you are looking for the creature comforts of a resort or hotel then this is not the place for you. The rooms may be spartan but they were clean. This is the place to go if you want to be away from the crowded tourist district, and value some peace and quiet. You will have a large variety of birds around your room, and maybe the occasional jackal at night if you are lucky (don't worry about them, they are great to see and go in the other direction as fast as they can if they see you). The family who own the lodge are all lovely and welcoming, and they supply some great tasting food (the nearest shops are a 10-15 minute walk away. Bishnu from the family who runs the lodge is also the safari guide, and he is great He is a local who truly loves and cares for nature, and who is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. I went out on my first jeep safari within a couple of hours of arriving and to be honest I was not expecting to see much. I would have been happy with a few birds and just seeing the park. What I saw far exceeded that. We spotted our first rhinoceros within a couple of minutes of entering the park and saw several more (up very close). There were dozens of spotted deer, hog deer, gharial crocodiles, mugger crocodiles, macaques, wild boar, and a huge variety of birds. I went on another jeep safari two days later and saw 9 different individual rhinoceros that day as well. Some of them were within n 5 metres of our jeep. On that second safari we also saw plenty more of the other animals I have mentioned, including a huge range of birds, including some migratory species which are rare to see in this part of the world. Unfortunately I decided not to do the canoe ride or the walking safari, but have since been in touch with other tourists I met there, who said that was also a wonderful experience. HIGHLY recommended.

Located in Sauraha, a 19-minute walk from Tharu Cultural Museum, Hotel Aikawa has accommodations with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a fitness center and a garden. We had a beautiful stay at Hotel Aikawa. The facilities are new and clean. The restaurant overlooked the pretty rice fields and it was very close to the restaurants in Sauraha. We were impressed by the staff who were all very helpful and professional. When we where there they were celebrating that they had aquired another star for their rating and we were invited to the celebrations where we had really good Nepali food. Overall we had an excellent stay and it was well worth the price.

Welcoming, hospitable and friendly owners, Sita and Deepak did everything to make me feel at home and make sure I had a great time. Room: The private room was super comfortable, had AC and was equiped with modern amenities. The location is super quiet, I rarely slept that good! Food: Amazing freshly cooked nepali recipes from nearby producers. The included breakfast is amazing! Try the banana pancakes!! Things to do: get a tour of the village and learn about the local people, the ethnic groups and their traditions. Safari walk to spot the local one horned rhinoceros. Swim at a nearby waterfall to refresh yourself! Cooking classes to learn how to make local dishes like Dal Baht and Momos. This was one in a lifetime experience and I will surely remember it!
