What I personally loved most was that every room had a spacious balcony with stunning views of the Cerna River and the surrounding mountains. It takes about 15–20 minutes to walk to downtown, but the view more than makes up for it. Moreover the owner was so soft-spoken and kind, wishing us the best stay. The scenery was truly amazing, and we'll definitely be coming back.

The view of the mountains is beautiful and the history...

The view of the mountains is beautiful and the history associated with this place. The Apollo bath museum, the statue of Hercules and the Casino are nice places to visit. It is worth taking a short trip to Orsova (18 km) and see the impressive sights of The boilers of the Danube and the sculpture of Decebalus -king of Dacians- carved in the mountain rock

Nice spot to just spend a couple of nights and explore the mountaineous surroundings. Oh, and eat. There are a few top rated restaurants which you should not miss. Resita has a pretty high supply of sea food, unexpectadly.

The town itself doesn't offer much, except for the decadence...

The town itself doesn't offer much, except for the decadence of a glorious past. Which is quite touching, at least for me. But the hiking trails around the town and the valley are amazing. This is actually the main attraction of the area, that worth every effort.

Go see the viaduct who pass through the city.

Go see the viaduct who pass through the city. Also the coin museum and the oldest mountain pharmacy. Check the City Hall . It has a woman architect. Walk on the main road. The houses are beautiful even if they are not restored. Visit the train station. it is one of the oldest in Romania We couldn't see the theater. But I would go a second time in Oravita for it.

This is a hidden gem - or could be.

This is a hidden gem - or could be. The old town is absolutely beautiful and the setting is stunning. Sadly, not a lot of restoration has been completed yet - but it is happening. The city centre, which is about 5 minutes drive south of the spa town is over-priced and very shabby. This is not your upmarket tourist town whatsoever. However, the setting, between the mountains is spectacular and you can see the potential. The town suffers from poor sewerage treatment, the river is lined with plastic and construction rubbish, and the guide maps and signage are woefully inadequate. There is major work being done on the road through the town and mountains, and some great restoration happening in the spa town. I would love to return in a year or two to see the positive changes. This should be one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Europe.
